How far/long is your commute?

39.2 miles across entire London each way. Depending on traffic conditions I spend between 2h45m to 4h hours a day in my car.
wow, thats dedication as it's not like it's an easy drive either - hats off to you. Your knee cartilage must have worn away from all the stop start driving.

About 35-40 mins, 12min walk + tram ride.

I've gone from a 3 minute walk to this and I don't really mind it. I get to read more than I used to which I enjoy.

28 miles bout 45 minutes depends on how many tractors i find blocking my way, do the journey in my car every time, gone from a 30 second walk for the past year to this is a bit of a shock, but love the drive when its clear :D

leave the house at 7.30 get to the office at 8.45 that's a combination of bus and walking then leave the office at 5 get home about 6.20, although the getting home time depends on when the bus bothers to show up.
Yes I think it's too long considering if I had a car I could leave the house at 8.20 and be in the office at the same time.
No way would I try a longer commute.

6.5 each way cycling. Each end has nasty hills to finish, and some sections are motorway so have to go on the cycle path (which seems more dangerous than the road in some cases.. all my accidents have been on cycle paths lol).

Depending on traffic and conditions, 35/40 mins there, 25/30 home.

about 40mile round trip

takes 40/45min each way on average

i don't think this is too bad, it could be a lot worse. i would never want to do much more than this.

we really need to rethink how we work. with lots of people sitting at computers all day they could be working from home or doing a day a week at home??!
sitting for hrs upon hrs in traffic is so demoralising. our roads cannot cope with the volumes of traffic in and around cities ad towns and never will unless they flatten buildings

Shortest route to work is 3.1 miles by cycle. Takes me on average 9 minutes.
Depending on weather & time I sometimes extend my ride to 10 miles or so. That usually takes around 30 minutes.

Before I moved to be closer to work my cycle was 22 miles, that used to take 1 hour 30 minutes
, but I'm much fitter now so I reckon it would take around 1hour 10 now even though it is a rather lumpy route.

I used to do Winchester to Hammersmith by train and tube, 2 hours ech way with little prospect of a seat on the train. 3 years was enought i now have a 6 mile trip with takes about 15 to 20 mins by car.

Last job was 8 mile by car and took around an hour >.< Could have cycled it in less but used to give my mum a lift to work as well .

Current job Used to take me about 25 mins which was 5 min was to station, 10 mins on train, 10 min walk to work. But now I have moved in with my girlfriend and it takes me around an 1 hr to 1hr 10 depending on a few things.

38 mile from Dunstable to London, M1 + A1 on a Motorbike. Isnt too bad.

Bo'ness to Edinburgh Airport. Roughly 10 miles. M9 nearly the whole way, by car it takes about 20mins. Always miss the rush hour as I work shifts, but the road works on the M9 as part of the new Forth Crossing Project add about 5mins these days.

We might be passing each other, I head out to grangemouth each day from Edinburgh.

Something has been bugging me about this, and indeed similar threads.

Does the OP really care so much about other people's commutes that they would then spend the time reading over 150 replies from people who, on the whole, write little more than a length of time?

I mean, other than for a school/university project, what possible interest is there in that many replies on this subject

I'm not trying to get at the OP but is anyone really that interested in all our commuting times?! Has anyone else read more than the OP and perhaps one or two other replies before posting their own and have they really come back that often to keep an eye on it?!?!

Seriously, I'm just curious, that's all :)

I'm just curious really to see what other peoples daily slogs are. How far do you travel? How long does it take you? Method of transport? Do you think it is too long? Would you be prepared to travel further?

Personally I commute from Farnborough to Paddington on the train/tube and it takes me 1.5 hours each way on a good day (which is most days). I do think it is a long time, but I've just got used to it really. I certainly wouldn't travel any further/longer though.

What about you?

Currently 10-15 minutes by car with free parking.

Soon to be 30 minutes by bus/walking.
