How hot should a Q6600 G0 be on a Tuniq Tower at idle, mine seems toasty.

If you remove the crazy cool, what on earth cools everything else. I.e the VRM's the NB etc. The Swiftech kit comes with the 775 "X" bracket. I couldn't fit as I had the underside HS to deal with. I left that on and used nuts and plastic washers. I'll do the same with the next HSF, unless someone categorically says that's not a good idea.

BTW, thanks for the response and links :)

as we seem to have a lot of Tuniq experts in here, ive got a problem with mine

im not overclocked so it doesnt matter too much ,but id like to

anyway, at idle temps in core temp are 50 +

if i remove the case side, the CPU temp remains roughly the same.

However, if i lay the case flat, the idle temps become into the 20s instead

is this more likely to be because heat can rise up out of the case ? or due to some kind of installation fault and it making better contact when mavity isnt pulling it down.

tryed tightening it?

Hey All,

Just finished my new build, just wanted to check the inital temps, do these seem ok?

Being just build im hoping the temps will drop a bit once settled down!!

Umm, forgot to mention thats with a Tuniq Tower, also it appears that im running at 1.6 I must be missing somin very easy...

Probably just too tired lol

that's becasue of speedstep so know worries about cpu frequency, but those temps seem a lil high, but give it time to settle in.

I get about 28c with my TT + q6600.

give it a week though to let the TIM settle, mine started off at nearly 40c.

Excellent news,

Ill get that changed in the bios and generally let the system settle in,

I have just noticed I have the CPU fan blowing into the case and not towards the rear, dunno if this would make much difference (I have an Antec 900 and its pretty breezy inside the case lol)

yes it needs to be the other way around.

you don't need to reseat the whole thing though, just take out the middle bit and turn it around, just means the panal the fan attatches to wont match up with the thins.

good :D

what would you save is max vcore I should go up to? and is there a safe heat limit for the ram?

and final question how much does all this effect the life of the components, becasue this needs to last atleaast 4 years. I was under the impression it should do easily, but I've recently been told it'll probly only last about 2-3?

tia.

is heat that damages the CPU not vcore (well not "normal" vcore) and your vcore is still well below what would be considered high... as long as you prime95 load temps are under 70c then really nothing to worry about... you have some headroom there for further clocking

Tjunction is 100c, so anything below 75c is the sensible option.

But some people are less sensible than others.

Lifespan never enters my head when clocking.

I watercool so I can pump more volts through the CPU than I would be able to on air.

Lifespan never enters my head when clocking.

is this becasue you upgrade so often or just becasue it doesnt effect lifespan?

and what is better 3.33ghz cpu and 740mhz ram at 6-6-6-18, or 3.24ghz cpu and 730mhz ram at 5-5-5-18?

edit: the prior just failed prime95, shall i lossen the timings some more? up the ram voltage? it's already at 2.0v, or shall I just leave it at 3.24?

cheers mate.
