How long is your commute?

I need to make a choice on what job to accept after I graduate and unfortunately I think the length of my commute is going to be a big factor in my decision.

I'm looking at a choice between 20 mins (15 miles) each way and approx an hour (40 miles) each way for the two different jobs. Obviously the closer one gives me more spare time and will cost me less on petrol. I want to know how one hour and 40 miles each way compares with the average.

My current commute is a poor 10 mins each way to a more impressive 100 mins each way (when in Liverpool).

For a new job I'm looking at, I'm looking at a 90 min commute (Manchester). I feel this is ok as I'm young, haven't been run down yet and the money is v good. I may look in to relocating dependant on how secure the role is.

Max i've ever had was about 30mins. 1hr would be a complete pain for me, and i'd hate it! It would mean leaving the house before 8, and getting back after 6 :( Which really eats into your spare time, and wouldn't be fun if you'd had a bad day!

Just over 11 miles. During school time (i.e. people dropping their kids off) and in my car about 40-45 mins, by bike about 30 mins.

During school holidays, by car, about 30-35 mins, by bike about 20-25 mins.

The joys or rush hour traffic!

about 0.75 of a mile.
10-15 mins in the car in a queue or a 10 min walk.

I used to drive between 45mins and 1hr 30 mins (40 miles), each way, when going to uni so it's nice to have a very small commute now.

Leave the house at 7.20am..........walk into work at 9am.

Gotta love london commuting :(

Yeah - when I was talking to my dad about it he had a good laugh at me complaining about a 1 hr commute since his used to take over 2 (apparently, but you know how old people stretch the truth).

I'm going in to the office to speak to the people I might end up working with. I'm going to ask them about actual working hours (eg does the company expect you to put in a 70 hr week). If it's over a 40 hr average week the one hour commute will put me off it.

It does, but plenty of people work those hours even without much of a commute, I worked with someone a while ago who travelled at least 2 hours to work (2.5 on a bad day), working 9 'til 6. Don't really know how she managed it. I think that leaving home before 7.30 and arriving home after 6 isn't at all unusual though.

Roughly 1hr 30mins+ each way for uni. On early days, leave house at 7.05, get bus at 7.15 (first bus in the morning btw), get to train station at 7.30, train comes at 7.50, get to Glasgow at 8.30 and then 10 / 15 min walk to uni.

Coming home is worse, lectures end on the hour and my train is one an hour at xx50. End of lecturer -> getting home = 2 hours.

Go me! :(

It's about four miles, 35 minutes from leaving my house to getting to the door of work.

****ing busses.

Ride a bike ;)

As for me, can take anything from 1hr 30 to 2 hours, thats if im working in London anyway.

About 8 miles, can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on traffic. Old job was only 6 miles and used to take longer sometimes!
