How long will I get away with this I wonder?

Actually you'd probably get away with no front plate for much the same reason as people get away with illegally spaced plates on the front.

I think they look good, as for the amount of unwanted attention you'll get, I think its more down to the type of car you drive.

I’ve always had illegal plates of some description, either letters to small or incorrectly placed.

When owning a boy racer Mondeo and a couple of MR2 I used to get pulled all the time for it. Lately its not been a problem in more "expensive" "upper class" cars. For example I didn’t even have a number plate on the front of my Corvette C5 plus the rear number plate had illegal spacing and incorrect letters sizes and I didn’t get pulled over once in a whole year.

As for a CTR, I think if a local Bobbie is having a bad day, he will pull and fine you.

Had a conversation with a mate last night who lives in the heart of London and he said "ironically you'd probably get away with it here, but not in the sticks" - I guess the logic being the Met have better things to do. Knowing Wilts Police they'll probably scramble the helicopter & spike strips when a panda car spots me, might even make the local paper. :p

It's a fair point that the fine is probably the same for not displaying any plates at all, but I would presume this would be looked upon more dimly as I could easily just drive past speed cameras with impunity with no plates - whereas the ones I have, albeit not legal, are not misspaced or otherwise illegible. They should still be readable by ANPR.

The above is largely irrelevant though as it will come down to how bad a day the cop who does eventually pull me over is having, as others have mentioned already.

It's a moderately interesting experiment anyway as far as I'm concerned, and one which doesn't really harm anyone. It's not like I'm trying to evade any kind of justice or speeding past schools, etc.

To be honest it's not something which most people would necessarily notice instantly - but I guess the police are trained to notice these things. I just wouldn't worry about it and just get on with it as and when. :)

edit: I'm basing my opinion on living in London.

you may as well have a sign on the back saying "Pull me please Mr plod".

I got fined £40 for having normal plates just because the "eu" number was missing which for those that don't know is a tiny number in the corner of your number plate

No you didn't. The requirement for a British Standard number is for the plate manufacturer and should be tested at MOT time but it is not a fineable offence for the driver.

And £40?

yes I did ,check you facts

Nothing like personal insults to start off the afternoon well.

You may have been fined, but Fox was pointing out you shouldn't have been not you didn't full stop.

Plates on the OP's car just don't look right, I agree with mr69, should only be used on the correct cars.

AFAIK incorrect spacing and dodgy fonts etc are endorsable with penalty points, whereas not having a plate is is just a fine and no points.

Like Iv'e said before on here, I ran both the scooby and the RX7 with no front plates for years, and never got pulled for it. Yet as soon as I put a small plate on the front of the scoob I got pulled for it. They actually followed me in to the work carpark and dealt with me, that looked really good to the boss

The 'teg won't be getting it's front plate back on either, I need the airflow for my FMIC ;)

No, he didn't remove it...it got removed for him. ;)

It's quite silly that you can not get told off if you have no plate, but as soon as you do have one that is incorrect you get told off. Logically you should get done the same for both...but then I suppose since when has logic applied to cars and fines etc. :p

No, I was saying he wasn't fined. If he was, he was fined for something else. There is simply no way a police officer would pull a car and fine its driver for not having 'BS AU 145d' in the right hand corner of the plate in size 10 font. It is not even a specific moving traffic offence, IIRC.

He was fined for something else, or is making it up. If I am wrong, then he should appeal.

Fair enough. It does seem a strange thing to be pulled/fined for though...I'm sure lots of my plates haven't have numbers in the corners...(just looked at pictures, nope, just the reg number on the plates)...maybe I just have cars that are too old. :p
