Soooo nearly clicked on place order and then removed from basket (4870 or GTX280)

Any other owners with itchy fingers who want a new shiny toy to play with that really don't need to change right now, and how many who also think they def need a fps boost so prob will upgrade before xmas

Well I'm still on 8800GTS (640MB) here. Frankly only games I want to buy in the future is Empire Total War and Left 4 Dead. Still there's is always that urge to make your rig that much faster, but I have to think rationally everytime I see a good deal ;)

I think in your case an upgrade would be good as you play at a high res so you would benefit at your res the 4870, gtx280 would be a nice jump especially with aa enabled the gap would grow. The 8800gtx is still a decent performer but for your res its left way behind these days.

I prefer 19x12 with 4AA/8AF min, currently replaying COD4 and HL2:Ep1 with a bit of COD4 multiplayer for a laugh. Card breezes through these no probs but am prob gonna do COD5, Farcry2, Brothers In Arms3, Aliens Col Marines and intend both Stalkers in next 3-4 months, leaving both Crysis til next gen cards out next year so not sure if GTX will be ok with above games, which is why I'm tempted 4870 to do me for next 6-9 months

All possible settings in NV Control panel are set for max IQ too, also COD4 has all in game settings maxed out apart from AA/AF which are 4/8

Think cod 5 should be ok as its on the same engine as cod 4 so i think that will play fine. Think farcry 2 gonna be one that all current cards will struggle with if you look at how the first one went. Not really sure on the other games though.

im still using an 8800 gtx plays everything fine. Why upgrade when theres no need too :D

Gotta say this is my sentiment exactly.

My main game that I play right now is WAR, and it runs that wonderfully.

Q6600, 4GB ram, 8800GTX running Vista 64bit on an Solid State Drive with ~1TB of storage elsewhere...

I was fine with my 8800gtx until friday last week when I got my 28" screen.
1920x1200 murders it on crysis and a few other games that ran fine at 1200x1024, guess all those pixels need more power.

Thing is im going to hold of till the next gen, WAR runs like a dream at 1920x1200 and thats going to keep my busy for quite a while

Far Cry 2 is a console game, theres no way any card will struggle with it

same here few times nearly bought 4870 now when prices gone up dont have that need anymore if i could just hold on till 2009 q1/q2 for new cards will be really pleased with myself but it would be hard to resist current new cards
