Since I passed my test in December 1996 aged 17 Friday 13th actually, and passed 1st time!

1986 Austin Metro 1.0
1987 Rover Metro 1.3
1989 Pug 205 GTi 1.9 8v
1992 Pug 205 GTi 1.6 8v > 1.9 16v
1990 Pug 405 Mi16, engine transplanted into 205 above 1.9 16v
1998 Ford Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 16v
2000 Pug 306 GTi-6 2.0 16v
2001 Fiat Punto Abarth 1.8 HGT
2005 Pug 206 GTi 180
2008 Toyota Auris 1.4 TD
2009 Pug 207 CC THP 1.6T
2014 VW Amarok Highline 180 2.0 TTD
2004 Ssangyong Rexton ELX 2.7 (Inherited)
2014 Kia Sportage 3 1.7 CRDI (Still owned)
2006 Toyota Yaris 1.3 (Inherited)
2022 Tesla Model Y LR
2024 Cupra Formentor VZN DSG 310 2.0 with a factory ABT tune (370Bhp)

All owned and paid for outright. Currently own the Kia and Cupra.

In 2025 I’ll be trading in the Kia for a 2024/2025 Skoda Superb. Owned the Kia for almost 7 years and it’s been bullet proof. Economical, comfortable, reliable and it’s now got almost 125k on it and still ploughs on. But it’s time for a change. MrsHB has commandeered the Cupra as her daily.

Four for me;

1999 - 2004 Hyundai Pony 1.5 GLS
2004 - 2007 Peugeot 306 1.4 XR
2007 - 2012 Skoda Octavia bars
2013 - current Mazda MX-5 MK1

For the past 10 years I've also had 5 company cars for various amounts of time.

Ford Fiesta XR2
Ford Capri 1.6 Laser
Ford Escort S2 RS Turbo
Mazda RX8
Ford Fiesta XR2 (2lt Zetec on motorbike carbs)
Mazda RX8
Ford Focus MK1
Audi A3
Ford Mondeo MK5
Mazda 3

Least favourite was the Audi. Most fun was the XR2 with 2lt Zetec. Best all round was the second RX8.
Mondeo I love as well I'll be keeping this until it falls apart ticks all the boxes. Don't really enjoy cars anymore.

Peugeot 106 Rallye
Ford Escort GTi
Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth (lasted 2 months before I blew the engine)
Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 16v
Renault Laguna (last less than 2 months before the bottom end went)
Peugeot 308
Peugeot 407
Peugeot 308SW
Ford CMax
Peugeot 508 Gen2 GT

You could say I enjoy a Peugeot, that said the best car in that lot was the CMax.

2004 - Peugeot 106 1.5D
2005 - Vectra 2.2 SRI
2008 - Honda accord Type R
2009 - Peugeot 106 1.5 D
2010 - Vauxhall Astra 1.9D
2018 - Vauxhall Vectra VXR
Present - Ford transit Custom, Ford Transit (converting to a camper) & a Ford Ranger Stormtrak

Most reliable of all the cars was the Peugeot surprisingly! Most fun the VXR, love the Accord though - that Vtec!

Currently we just work vans but hoping to add an M4 at some point.

Can't remember years but;

Astra
Corsa
Astra
Fiesta
Astra coupe
Clio 182
Pajero IO
Vectra estate
Focus
Octavia estate vrs
Fiesta ST
Passat GTE PHEV

The Pajero was probably the most fun. Destroyed it in the end, thing would go anywhere. Bald tyres and still would tank across beaches and up mountain paths.

I could also probably remember the factory colour names too.

I had 2 motorbikes before getting my car licence at 19

Piaggio nrg 50cc 2005 plate
Honda CBR 125 2004 plate

Renault clio 172 2002 plate
Abarth 124 2017 plate
BMW m2 comption f87 dct 2019 plate

Current: BMW m2 G87 manual 2024 plate and Honda CBR 600RR 2024 plate.

Took me 13 years to go for my full motobike licence. :o

I passed my car test back in 1985 at 19 years old but had a motorbike before that.

1983 Honda CB100n. Wrecked when a car took me out at a junction just two weeks before I was due to take my test. The bike went under the car and I went over it!! It took me until 2001 to get back on a bike and I passed my test first time.

1985 T reg Ford Cortina Mk4 1.6L. Too big as a first car really but I loved it.
1991 Daihatsu Charmant 1.6LX. Punchy little engine in this and my last saloon car.
1992 E reg Nissan Bluebird 1.6GLX. Did over 150k miles in this car.
1999 Ford Focus Estate 1.8tddi. Ordered this without even seeing one in the flesh. My one and only brand new car.
2011 04 plate Vauxhall Astra Mk4 1.6SXi. My first and last Vauxhall.
2021 17 plate Ford B-Max Zetec Navigator 1.0L 125bhp. My last ever Ford and probably my last ICE powered car.
2024 21 plate Nissan Leaf Tekna. My first EV and the first top of the range car I have ever had. It's also the best car I have ever owned.

96 Vauxhall Corsa
2002 Toyota Celica
2003 Audi A3 1.9 TDI (most boring)
2007 Mazda MX-5 Icon 1.8
2009 Kia Rio CRDI (shopping cart)
2007 Focus ST-2
2013 Fiesta ST-2
2013 Toyota GT86
2006 Lotus Elise (keeper)
2012 Renault Twingo (weirdly one of the cars I regret selling the most)
2009 Abarth 500 (was on about 120k miles but had to go, to many problems. No rust though suprisingly)

Looking for a new daily atm, but I don't think anything current is worth buying. So it will be an oldie again as they are just more fun to drive.

Don't ask me years or ages or when me cause I have only a vague recollection of some of them.

G795NNS Volvo 340 1.7GL. Built like a tank, handled like one too. Wobbly it was. Leaf spring rear suspension. Absolutely ate alternator and the rear brakes kept seizing. Traded in needing it's 4th Alternator for

M877YKB Ford Escort 1.6 Zetec. Loved this car. Not especially fast but it felt overtyred so handled really well. Managed to burn through it's valves somehow so was written off.

S Reg 3 door Rover 214i in silver. So unremarkable that I can't remember the reg or how long I had it for. Ate it's cambelt about 2 years after it should have been changed and trashed the engine.

T Reg Nissan Almera. Dull in the extreme but a gift from my parents after they were offered £200 as a trade in. What I needed at the time as it passed every MOT it ever had without even an advisory. Reliable in the extreme. Written off when someone pulled out of a side road into me and insurance offered me £1,800!

S34GWH Peugeot 306 GTI-6. After having a huge back catalogue of fairly dull cars I bought one of these. Amazing cars with spooky ride and handling, but after the reliability of my Almera this was a total shock to the system. Each MOT ended up with repairs and the bill always seemed to start with a 4 or 5 and even then things also went wrong in between MOT's as well with similar sized bills. A Clutch replacement cost me £900. A working one is a beautiful thing, but it was a money pit. Sold to someone from my company as a non-runner as it overheated regularly. Was scrapped 6 months later I believe.

Seat Leon 1.8T Cupra 180PS. Good car this. Decent turn of pace and only marginally quicker than the GTI but way more economical and way more reliable. Handling and feel much worse though. Written off after a few years at MOT time due to a full. Exhaust being required, Seat no longer having them apparently and an aftermarket one costing £1.5k and increasing insurance by £500 too. I believe it was still running around as it has current MOT.

Replaced by a 2012 Ford Focus 1.6 Ecoboost 182PS. Another really good car, reliable and quick enough too. Had this for about 4 years and very little went wrong. Passenger window regulator died, typical Mk 3 Focus door seals came away at the bottom of the doors too. New battery as well, but other than servicing and tyres it was great.

Replaced in July 2021 with the current option, 2015 BMW 428I Gran Coupe. Which has been absolutely brilliant. Fastest car I've ever had, handles decently and has made me an automatic convert. Has been ultra reliable too. Great car.

A mixture of owned/leased in order:

Renault Clio mk2
Audi A3 2.0 TFSI 8P
Audi A4 2.0 TFSI B8
BMW 530d F10
Range Rover Velar D300
BMW 520d G30
Jaguar XE D200

Mostly comfy exec saloons which is where my hearts at. All autos/DSG’s minus the Clio. I fancy something a bit sportier so plan to keep hold of the XE for a while(or as long as it takes to avoid the electric phase) and get something silly to run alongside it.

Longest I’ve had was the Clio followed by the A3 which required parts of the engine to be rebuilt, cost almost of the value of the car.

For those with massive lists of cars, has it been a money pit for you, or do you know some secret to avoid breaking the bank?

Trying to tease out the most bang for buck way of doing car ownership.
