How many hard drives do you have?

Ever thought of just selling a few and getting bigger drives instead lol

I have:

C:\ 40Gb OS Partition
D:\ 255Gb Games/Current Downloads Partition

D: 160GB Segate - Games/Pagefile
E: 320GB WD - Backup/Storage

Unused.

I have been running out of HDD space  so I have added a couple more drives

2xPC and 2xServers

2x150GB raptors
2x74GB raptors
2*36gb raptors
2*60gb Deskstar
2*80GB Deskstar
2*200GB Deskstar (all working, just about :D )
8*250GB various
2*400GB WD
1*500GB Samsung
2*750GB Seagate

NAS
N5200 - 5*400GB Raid5
N2100 - 2*250GB Raid0

And finally my HTPC
1*120GB 2.5inch
3*160GB 2.5inch

Giving a total of 8.7TB of usable space. The usage is roughly split 10% normal usage, 40% Freeview media recordings and 50% DV/HDV

Hurmmm, mad stuff. so how many you have on your pcs ?

My PC has 5 HDD including the 150GB raptors. The PC for the rest of the family has the 74gb Raptors and 4*250GB.

Unlike CPUs or graphics cards I never have to worry that a HDD will be too slow in 12 months time. I could have archived stuff to DVD but it's not that much cheaper and is much less convenient. The only problem is that even with a row of CM stackers I have now only enough space for two more disks!

Main PC
2 x 40Gb Samsung Satas in Raid 0 (OS)
1 x 40Gb Samsung Sata (was meant to part of the array)

1 x 320Gb Seagate 7200.10 (Storage)

1 x 200Gb Seagate 7200.10 in a firewire IcyBox (Backup)

Server 1
2 x 16Gb SCSI 10k's in Raid 1
4 x 9Gb SCSI 7200's in Raid 5

Server 2
2 x 5Gb SCSI 7200's in Raid 1
4 x 5Gb SCSI 7200's in Raid 5

In single Drive systems, I have

C: = 7GB
D: = Rest

In dual drive systems, I have

C: = 8GB + E: = Rest
D: = Rest + 10GB

I Dont have any 3 Drive systems cos its an unlucky number for me

4 Drive systems, I have C: as an 8GB, and usually the rest of that drive I have for ISO Images.

All my drives are setup with the very same locations for its files, and all *** above and all my PCs are setup with the following:-

C: = Windows ( Also system tools like Spyware killers, Nero and so on )
D: = Apps & Games, also Drivers and System Tools
E: = Media
F: = Junk, Backups of My Docs etc
M: = Downloads ( With P2P etc, its always a seperate HD on a seperate controler )
T: - This is *** second partition shared with C: and is used only for ISOs or other instalation files

My MO Dirves are always setup similarly too

O: = ZIP or other M/O Drive
Z: = CDROM
W: = CDRW
V: = DVD
R: = DVD

My main box has 4xDVDRW so I am using up the 4 letters R: V: W: Z:

And Virtual Drives ( For the ISOs ) with DAEMON my CDs are:-

P: and Q:

Its always the same format as these so no matter which PC I use I know exactly where to find exactly what file in seconds, cos I know if I have it on that PC, where it will be... Searching is utterly useless to me with this method... Which aint a bad thign as I have 14 PCs

Drive C: 2x80gb Hitachi Deskstars in RAID 0, OS+games+Data
Drive F: 250gb Samsung Spinpoint, Backup of Data on C: + Media.

Make regular backups on DVD.

Last count, 17 SCSI drives, ranging from 18 to 73GB, 6 Raptor Drives 2 36 3 74 and one 150gb. About 15 drives in the 80-750gb range and about 10 or so under 80gb.

thats a lot of drives..

what's the rotation speed of you SCSI's? i find mine too noisy...

Just the one Samsung 250 partitioned into 3.

silvergun-k - 40GB - Vista and Vista apps
exelica-v - 40GB - XP and XP Apps
ikaruga-z - 152GB - Storage.

It also, for some reason or another gets the most idiotic burst speeds in HDTach on XP, with burst speeds read at over 1000.... perfectly normal on vista tho.

Ok well here we go

2 x 160 Gig Maxtor + 10's Sata 2 in the PC, one of them is totally empty lol
1 x 160 Gig Samsung IDE which has all my movies and TV shows on, currently not in my PC
1 x 250 Gig external WD HDD with all my music on
1 x 120 Gig external WD HDD with all my downloads on

Tempted to buy a 500 Gig HDD next month and take out the two mxtors in the PC, condense it down to one drive in the PC me thinks.

E: CD-Rom 12x
F: 1x 250gb Seagate IDE - Back Up of C: + CD-Roms
G: 1x 300gb Samsung Sata - DIVX Drive
H: 1x 300gb Samsung Sata - Music, Photos, Docs

C:\ is XP
H:\ is Vista
D:\ and I:\ are just where i put various stuff
The unknowns are Linux partitions and the unallocated space is the remains of an old Linux install
