I always plan 6 hours of getting into bed then having to leave, but I don't know how long I actually sleep for, I wake up a lot, find it very difficult to stay asleep. Imagine yourself now, close your eyes, like that for 2 hours, sometimes I get really irritated and get up again to force myself to get tired.

Although a few nights ago I had some decent shut eye for once!

It sometimes takes me 1-2 hours a night to fall asleep... ...Does it take anyone else that long to fall asleep?

Yeap, all the time :(

I'm always asleep within a few minutes

I've always envied people like this, I've seen people fall asleep at their desk at lans within minutes, seen someone reading a book fall asleep sitting up, at other peoples places (for whatever reason) and they start snoring/obviously sleeping in minutes, (I wonder if it's related to people who fall asleep operating machinery/vehicles, they must have a predisposition to sleep easily).

Tried a lot of things, I never used to eat that healthy but tried in the past and the last few months I've started to like salads (which I always hated but now I love it, like my body finally decided to shock my system into eating better), doesn't help.

I tried 3 times in the past to stop any caffeine intake and just drank water for months, there was not the slightest change in ease of sleeping, I've tried to excercise more, 3 months every day on and off, I tried "herbal" products, over the counter medication. I've even tried prescription meds from friends/ex's/fam but they don't do anything. I've seen them get knocked out into a really sluggish mode and I feel NOTHING. When I try get my own medication my doc refuses to due to them "being addictive" and "I'm too young" (I was around 24-25 at the time).

Roughly 4 to 5 hours for 6 days (work nights).

Then on a Sunday I have my daughter and we go to bed at 8pm an sleep for 11 hours,it takes me ages to get going after 11 hours sleep but during the week in wide awake when I get up.

The people who can't get to sleep for ages - have you considered looking for reasons why? Bed uncomfortable? Bedroom too warm/cold? Light from outside? Noise from a computer/fridge(!)/or whatever? Do you drink stuff with caffeine in it? Have you just got a broken sleeping pattern? Etc.

My post a few above, I have tried a lot on not just for a week, I understand the body takes a long time to adjust and account for changes. I've simply given up now :(

People who sleep less than 6-7 must eat loads of sugary food or do little exercise. I'm normally exhausted to the point of blanking out by 1am on a week night!

2-8, say usually around 5-6hrs. Depends what shifts I've been doing. Worse is when I do sat night, then go in Monday day shift. Like today. Got about 2hrs last night.

Its more about waking up in-between sleep cycles that makes you feel refreshed.

Tell you roughly when to go to bed/wake up. I was a bit of a sceptic but have used it and felt a difference.

Usually go to bed about 12-1am and get up at 6am. However shifts change and sometimes I will get an early night to compensate for a later night previously. Usually aim for 6 hours
