how many of you out there still use a CRT?

Compaq P1220 here wouldn't change it for anything the flexibility it give is to much to give up, plus in my opinion it beats my 42" Panny plasma in picture quality and colour reproduction.

Well in a week or two my Hansol 19" CRT is getting replaced by a 21" Dell CRT 1600 x 1200 @ 100hz, all thanks to the MM.

17" CRT at the mo. It doesn't feel small. I've never experienced any bigger before.

Will be getting a 22" TFT/LCD for christmas I suspect.

Why would you prefer 4:3 over 16:10?

Because

a) 4:3 is bigger than 16:10 for a given "size"
b) I don't have proper binocular vision so only really see out of one eye at a time (with kinda hazy vision out of the other), so widescreen isn't really ideal for me
c) 4:3 is better supported in older games

I'm running a 21" eizo CRT at the moment, still looks good, though I am considering moving to a TFT, the only thing stopping me is it's so f...ing heavy I can't be arsed to move the damn thing.

I'm still using a 19" CRT (Hyundai ImageQuest Q995). Does 1600x1200@75, but with the relatively small size I prefer 1280x1024, which also allows for a much higher refresh rate.

Cost me £50 second hand about 6 years ago. Works perfectly, scales resolution well for old games and will do so for new games that I can't run at higher res (not a problem at the moment as I upgraded fairly recently).

There are a couple of LCDs at work with a broken pixel each. It annoys me to use them. That's another reason I'm not eager to switch to LCD.

The other system in our house as a relisys 19" TFT, worst monitor you've ever seen.

I insist the only use it has in the world is as ballast but the old man is set in his ways....

My better half still uses a 19" Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451, almost 10 years old now. The brightness has faded a bit, prolly going to be replaced next March (birthday).

My CRT conked out recently, so I finally got an LCD (LG 5ms) and I have to say it's better than I thought. There is no ghosting on fast moving games, and the size is much more manageable for moving around.

I would never use a CRT.

They make my room hot
They give me eye strain after long periods
If the image is under 60hz it appears to be 'flickery'
They are HUGE and a massive PITA to move around.

CRT is just old tech and outdated now.

Im forced to use a 15" CRT at the moment due to my 19" Samsung LCD going faulty. Sent a replacement but it didnt come with the upright black bit of the stand so theyre sending me it, should be ere soon.

I still use a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u (22" tube) as my main monitor, tried quite a few TFTs, but always end up thinking the Mitsubishi has the edge in visual quality, and is just plain nice to use.

I always think people who slate CRTs probably only used really nasty quality ones of which there were loads back in the day.

I've tried to replace it quite a few times and have come to the conclusion that I would have to spend >£450 for something to (maybe) equal it, and that just isn't going to happen any time soon.

EDIT: I should also mention my secondary display is a 2443BW and the Mitsubishi as I'm sitting here still knocks spots off it :)

Got two of those on my desk at work and while one is a bit faded after a decade's constant use they're still quite acceptable for day-to-day use. It'd not be practical to replace with an LCD as I need to run all sorts of resolutions and retain decent image quality.

Personally I've owned a CRT monitor in my life (and I'm 38 years old now!!) and can't stand them...!! I'll stick with my trusty old Iiyama 20" 4:3 TFT (even although it's got a really slow MVA panel).

Roll on a decent 24" 16:10 / 16:9 LED backlight display for my refresh!!
