I think we're called Infrastructure Consultant (Server) this week .... it varies ...

What I do; Review new solutions/bids for supportability and work with the TAs to make them acceptable and supportable, write technical documentation for internal use (ref arch/standards/cookbooks), innovation work looking at new products and seeing if we want to support them and acting as an escalation point for 3rd line when they get stuck ...

3rd line support, although currently spiced up by being in charge of implementing an SCCM infrastructure from scratch and then deploying Windows 7 + all applications to our entire estate. Fun times.

1st line support doing 75%+ of all the faults or monkey work! (field support and 3rd line are far too quiet)
yawn!

Anything & everything, for a Small-Mid sized company.

From server/network/email/phone admin, to .net development through to user support (Unfortunately :().

School Senior IT Technician in a team of 3

Hopefully, when my manager leaves in the hopefully not too distant future i'll get his job.

SysAdmin (SQL/SharePoint) and occasional Project Manager. Working on working (!) for myself in a different but still IT related field so I can get out of the rat race.

For those who got out - what did you go into?

Was it something totally different, or is there a place all programmers go when they hang up their compilers?
