Just wondered how many of you game @ home with headphones on. I've got a decent 5.1 sound system which is very good but the immersion of a good pair of headphones cannot be beaten.

Obvoiusly online gaming would be an advantage but does anyone use them for general gaming and single player gaming??

Iv got 5.1 surround sound also, which through the day is fine.

Night time, it sounds like world war 3 is happening playing battlefield 3.

I use Medusa 5.1 headphones, always have for past few years, been through a few pairs (due to me dropping them when drunk etc but they are strong headphones), and the ones i have now are the best iv had.
The bass on them is xtreme when cranked up, they'll liturally rattle off your head if you listen to a subwoofer testing song with the volume up loud. haha

Iv got a X-Fi Fatality FPS sound card, and how iv wired it up, is just buy some audio splitter cables, so that you can plug the headphone audio jacks in aswell as the surround sound.

make sure ya get the right medusa's tho which have audio jacks, some just have usb etc.

I tried a razer barracuda headset, didnt like it, was good though but not as practical as the medusas

I use headphones. Purely because my neighbours work dodgy hours and are sometimes asleep in the evenings when I get home. So I like to be the kind neighbour and not have a massive 5.1 system causing huge explosions and stuff that might disturb them.

I've got logitech G930's very good headphones imo. Only reason I got them was because it was one of the few I could find that were wireless and had a mic build in which I use for games and skype. They are extremely good headphones though I was actually surprised considering a lot of the audiophiles on this forum and about the web tend to say logitech = horrible sound.

I use my Yamaha 3063 AV with 5.1 speakers when playing SP games or MP NOT with friends.

I use Roccatt Kave 5.1 headset when gaming with mates online as I need he mic. Also when it's very late at night not to wake the family up.

I use headphones.

Have ice mat siberia ones which have lasted me for 3 years maybe more. I was forever buying £20 headset that only ended up lasting 3 months top, something would go on them or i would break them being clumsy.

Cant beat a decent pair! Main reason is to keep the noise down in the house, but i find myself very often being logged into voice coms playing single player games (maybe in a seperate channel if people talking is spoiling the game) so people can get hold of me.

I'll use my headphones if the game is loud enough to annoy others in the house or if it's late at night. If it does i'll use my Sennheiser HD 555's otherwise i'll use my 2.1 setup of Logitech z-2300's.

I had a nice 5.1 setup for yonks, i used to buy headsets just for the Mic and wear them round my neck(very odd lol)

One day i plugged in the green socket too. That was 3 years ago.

Always game with headphones. I live next door to a very noisy house with a lot of occupants, so I try to keep my noise down so as to not give them an excuse to play loud music.

For normal daytime use I have my Creative 7.1 system, however if the base is turned to about 5% volume the mrs complains that it is too loud so have to use headphones for things like L4D2, Crysis etc.

I use these (or at least ones that look very very similar)

Is quite handy using headphones as they are so comfortable, however I do prefer the surround system, just personal preference I suppose :)

I know a lot of mates that use that headset

With my new headset, I am gaming with it on. Amazing sound, and keeps the gf happier :)

Although, I am a bit annoyed. Price dropped just after I ordered them :(

Seems like most people use headphones to please the neighbours or because of the neighbours.

PC is in the living room so to as not severely **** off my gf they are essential.

I can relate to that when I used to have my PC in the bedroom. The only condition was I used headphones and had a silent keyboard. Luckily I have my own office now so who cares.

I quite often play wearing headphones if my kids are still awake and I'm playing a game with plenty of swearing.

Usually speakers during the day, but I change to headphones in the evening because I don't want to disturb housemates, and I use the mic. I'm deaf in one ear though so headphones are a bit annoying, speakers are nicer to listen to even if the actual sound isn't as good.

Since I use my PC so much it's only fair I use headphones really, besides with a decent pair of headphones (I use Sibera V2, amazing for music + virtual surround sound) you can go as loud as you like without having to **** off everyone in the vicinity of your home by using speakers at 2am.

The only other expensive pair of headphones i've owned is the Sennheiser 280 pro, and compared to the Siberia V2 despite being a 'gamer headset', the latter is superior in almost every aspect - clarity, bass, volume and a very nice crisp microphone for Skype. I'd recommend, at £55~ it's a bloody bargain.

Oh, might add that I use with a soundcard (X-fi xtreme gamer - amps them very well) - tried them without, they need a soundcard to shine.
