How many people game with headphones @ Home??

Headphones. I'd use 5.1 Surround if I could (I have the speakers for it). But basically the flatmates complain when the volume is enough that I can pick up all the sound properly.

Only exception really is if I'm watching a film or tv program (not relevant to OP's question).

I also find the sound quality to be better with my headphone set up.
For the record:
NS1000s (second pair still working thankfully)
Xonar D2
FiiO e5
Turn on:
Dolby Headphone
8 Channel sound
ANR on headphones

In my own world :) Got so spooked out by ghosts the other day in Skyrim...

Same setup as me! Awesome awesome sound!

Headphones. Always.

My friend has a 7.1 system on this PC, games like Battlefield 3 sound amazing but for some reason for me personally headphones make me feel like i'm really there. I can hear every sound that made, crystal clear with no background noise interruptions. Also for scary games like Amnesia, nothing but headphones would do the trick and immerse you that much in a game.

Theese are the settings i use on my xonar DX.

7.1 enabled in windows control panel.

Speakers for console gaming, headphones 100% of the time for pc gaming.

Have a pair of NS1000 which are quite cheap and not the comfiest though if I'm honest.

I always play with headphones, literally haven't used speakers on my PC (for gaming or music) since the 90s. Might be nice to try it one day with modern speakers but I think they would be wasted on me as I do a lot of gaming after my wife has gone to bed. I paid over £100 for the headphones so may as well get good use from them.

Only problem with headphones really is it cuts out other sound a bit much e.g. can't hear people knocking on the door.

I used to use headphones for gaming until i started using Ventrilo. Once that happened i had to buy a decent set of speakers as hearing voices and game sounds through the headset was annoying, now it's game sounds through the speakers and Ventrilo through a headset.

I generally use 5.1 surround sound until about 10, then if I'm still playing I switch to the headphones so the neighbours don't complain. I definitely prefer the speakers though.

What I do is use the "ducking" feature in vent. Whenever you or someone else pushes to talk, all other sound from games, music etc. is lowered.

It's easily audible in the background but you can also hear clearly what's being said in vent :)

It certainly sounds more natural than just 2.0 headphones. Playing Portal 2, got it set to 5.1 speaker config, and then 8 channels in the Asus config with Dolby Headphone on in a livelier room (middle setting)

Goldring DR150s through a hi-fi amp + X-Fi XCMSS = lovely surround sound.

I used to swear by Medusa 5.1 headsets, but they were too fragile, plus later versions had poor sound quality. The DR150's sound much better, and the surround effect is just as good using the X-Fi. I have cable-tied a microphone to them, so I can use them as a headset.

Always use my headset.

Purely because standard Dell 2.0 speakers sound pants, and the Corsair HS1 sounds bloody brilliant. Plus it has 5.1/7.1 and Dobly Headphone mode in the drivers...love it!

I always use headphones, mine are nothing fancy but the sense of immersion is so much greater than with normal speakers. Only downside is you cant hear anything, like the door bell or phone lol. Or when the other half comes home and scares the crap out of you!

Haha yeah, that does become a problem. Especially when playing something like STALKER at 2am on the weekend in a dark room. Very scary.

Headphones all the time when I'm sat at the pc, speakers only get used for music when I'm reading or cooking or something that doesn't involve sitting at the pc.
