How many real friends you got?

I didn't make any "best" friends (the kind that you can just call and they'll come round; the kind that you share everything with) throughout highschool or sixth form :( Mainly because I'm a very closed person, but I only realised this late last year. I do have a few dozen friends that I could just call and go out with, though I rarely do this because of CBAness.

These discussions are always rather silly, because everyone has different ideas when it comes to classifying friends... but meh. The closest of friends are people you'd literally do anything for, but who'd do anything for you in return - now lots of people will think that describes some of their "close friendships", but I'd question whether or not that really is the case.

I'm sorry but you don't have 30-50 friends who you'd do anything for, and they wouldn't do anything for you... what you're describing are friends. Yes, you can spend a day with them and it won't be awkward... wow :| - would you be comfortable telling them all your deepest secrets? Would you be comfortable talking to them all about the things that ~affect~ you the most? If people say they have large numbers of "really close friends" there's either a difference in opinion when it comes to classifying what a "close friend" is... or they don't really have anyone they trust to a great enough extent to label them as such.

Myself? I'd say I have five really close friends, but I rather nice circle of "good" friends, as I'm actually quite easy to like (believe it or not!).

I said i had around that many friends.....and about 8 close friends.?:confused:
 
only one guy who i consider like a brother to me, known each other 14 years, lol, about 3 who are still very close and quite a lot more who i go out with every now and then but arnt incredibly close to i'd say
 
2 or 3 close friends (ie talk about personal stuff and they'd help me out big time over serious stuff, illnesses, holidays with them etc etc)

10 ish mates (general chatting or shared hobby thing but not actually person stuff where i could say i know them that well)

50 acquaintances ("hi, how are you fine thanks - bye" social thing)

which is pretty good as i dont really like people much :D
 
Mmmm... Ive been through this thought process myself with the Mrs and we both decided its the quality of friends that count.

As a result, I'd say I have 3 true friends (At a push) - Not depressing, I have a wife and 2 kids, they are my TRUE best friends and will be forever.

One of my friends lives in a different town to me, many miles away and we hardly talk yet when we do, its like old times. Thats a true friend in my opinion.
 
I agree with the people who have raised the notion of that which constitutes true friendship: the definitions are blurred and totally subjective.

I would say that one can have hundreds of acquaintances, but not hundreds of friends.

Personally, I think that what I would define as 'true friendship' is someone with whom you feel at ease with. At ease speaking to about anything without ever feeling hesitant (be it personal problems or simply political debate or pipe dreams).
It should be a person for whom you are always available and whom you will always try for, no matter what the circumstances.

I would say that I have many acquaintances that I see from time to time and that I am glad to see, however circumstances mean I don't really see them that often; just whenever I bump into them or on various nights out.

I'd say that I have a circle of friends of perhaps thirty or so. However, I would say that I have four 'true friends' who I can rely on totally and who can rely on me without hesitation.
 
As life continues they disappear, my real friends are but a handful, you work that out in an hour of need.

16 Local friends rest of the people in the group are acquaintances, about 5 of them are really close friends.

I also have a few close friends from different parts of the country.
 
None but everybody would think otherwise.
My two bosses kept on saying they were going to put me up for Mayor because everywhere we go somebody would know me.
I went to watch a band last night and didn't speak to the wife because I had at least 100 people talking to me during the evening (obviously quick sentences).
I'll perform in front of 200 people and have them eating out of my hand but in reality I'm a billy no mates.
 
Friends i see atleast once a week? 2

Friends i see Occasionally? 2

Friend that moved interstate? 1

So i dont really see more then 3 at a time
