I conclude that if you are making it yourself or buying it from a sandwich shop then it is ONE sandwich but if you are eating a small triangle from a buffet etc then that small triangle is also one sandwich

I have to back down and agree a little bit here.
Piggy is right that one round = one sandwich but if I was at a wedding and the wife said how many sandwiches do you want from the buffet and I said 'four', I would expect four triangles. That would obviously be 2 rounds which should make 2 sandwiches in the real world.

I can conclude that weddings/party's etc are different.

If you use 1 piece of bread, add a filling, and fold in half, thats one sandwich.

If you use 2 pieces of bread, adding a filling between the two, thats still a sandwich, all be it a larger one.

The minute you cut the second example, you have 2 halfs of said sandwich, rather than 1 whole one :)

So the answer is one.

1 whole sandwich/2 = 2 1/2 sandwiches for christ sake!!!!!!!!!
if you cut something in 1/2 then you have 1/2 of it left not a new whole one
So you cant make a whole sandwich with one slice of bread? If you only had one slice, and you folded it in half with a filling, would you not be eating a sandwich?

Ah, but that is a whole, half-sized sandwich. It's complete, nothing has been removed.

Not half a sandwich!

But you take my point, no? So if one slice of bread = 1 sandwich, then surely 2 = 2. Sure, the construction method is more efficent, but the net result is the same...
