How much do you drink?

I doubt it, but you get what I mean? It's always going to be something I can live without.

I know what you mean, but I bet that's what people who are alcoholics thought too (and a lot of them probably still think it). Just because you don't enjoy drinking now, doesn't mean that you can rule out alcoholism in the future, not that I'm trying to steer you towards it or anything :p

Are we in a society where how much you can drink makes you more of a man / ladette?

I would say it depends on what your social standing is society (not taking a dig at you) but it only seems to something university students or the working class brag about

I've had one can of lager since the 27th of May (remember the date as it was a big festival/night out). And I didn't really want that.

I sometimes go a long time without drinking. And then I've been known to have quite a bit, but this time I'm really not feeling drink much. The fact it saves you money, sometimes embarrassment, and gives you a sense of calm control tends to do it for me. That, and probably listening to a fair bit of sXe hardcore, but shhhh :p.

edit: the tag "better than you" because you're straight-edge is, to be frank, hilarious.
Ha that's the wrestler in my sig's catchphrase type thing.

He uses his lifestyle as his in ring character.

Fair enough. I respect the discipline of straight-edge within British society much more than I do others, because of the emphasis placed on drunkenness within it.

Still can't see myself doing any drinking in the near future, though.

Social standing? I was brought up around the safest / wealthiest area's of Aberdeen / UK. I can see where you are coming from but I wasn't brought up in a 'hard' or 'socialy deprived' area. So out goes that theory. :p However my cousin was brought up in a very tough area of the Glasgow suburbs and has had a tough life. Extremes on both ends of the social scale.

I dont drink regularly and fall under the category of "binge drinker" that is, to go OTT every now and then and not on a regular basis. I would say that I probably go crazy once a month but besides that I genuinely tend not to drink otherwise.

That's me these days. 4 years ago I'd be in the pub every night now I'm lucky if it's once a month although I don't really miss going out so much.

What an odd thing to say. Do you think alcoholics wanted to become alcoholics?

I think it was phrased wrongly.

I am an Alcoholic.

Good upbringing , reasonably well educated , hard working , sensible etc...

I would never of predicted , when i was younger that i would end up ,at a later stage in life ,a full blown 24 hours a day Special Brew drinking mess.

It not a decision you make , in a way it chooses you.

Been there done it.

I can , and will not , offer any advice as each person is different. Neither will i be a scaremongering hypocrite and tell anyone about the evils of Alcohol.

Alcohol , as any drug , can be addictive.

But it can also be a lot of fun :D

Just be careful ;)

Cheers,

Mark

This time last year i would drink 10+ pints in a night a few times a fortnight, good fun but very expensive :p Now alcohol has really lost its appeal and i only drink really when my mates do, 5pints and i'll be all over the place..

I'm with Alty and wyrdo on this one....

I dont like people using the phrase alcholic so lightly and with an air that makes it sound "cool"

When i was younger my uncle when through a messy divorce and was putting 3 bottles of vodka in him a day. He lost His house, his job his mates and also nealry his brother (my dad) and the rest of his family cos of it. If it wasnt for my dad i dont think he would have lived long.

I was too young to really understand it all but looking back it must be one of the most messed up things to go through, seeing no light at all no answers just self pity.

One of my best mates said to me once " i think im an alcholic, i had a beer with my cornflakes then went to work, haha !" I wanted to swing at him, nothing really annoys me i laugh off what most people say but this gets to me.

How much do i drink? Naff all nowdays Ive grown up. I used to drink myself to oblivion at least once or twice a week from the age of 16-17 but that all stopped come 25. Id rather have a pint of ice cold l'eau d'tap than a beer. If i do have a cold one its usually Cider i dunno why but it tastes so damn fine lol

might have a small whisky if work has been a bit stressful, if i go out i still dont drink muhc

going on holiday saturday though, so all that will be going out of the window ;) :p

I have a glass of wine pretty much every night. Go out twice a week or so while at Uni. Im happy with it and thats all that matters :)

i saw l.a. and thought if you were american that would explain the non-drinking culture thing. ;)

Heh my location isn't real. I'm a uni student in central london. Out pretty much everynight with mates who all drink, however I have been told I act crazier than them when they ARE lashed:eek: However I like being in control of myself and focused, can't really have it any other way.

I drink very little alcohol. Even if I'm out for the night, I'll frequently drive and just drink water.
I don't need it to have a good time, although very occasionally I'll have one drink to knock me out if I've been having problems sleeping.
