How much do you spend per month on your hobbies?

£12 a month to play casual competitive football on a Thursday evening (not including fuel). The Mrs does pilates on Wednesdays. Good for both of us.

About £5-10 on my Kindle.

We have twins under 2 so our life is pretty busy with that. Weekends are generally local walks which we both enjoy.

I spend about £20 a month on the gym and about £50 a year on stuff for Pathfinder/D&D, walking is pretty much free.

Until starting to exercise regularly and then going to the gym I had very little energy to do much after work other than normal housework, but the exercise has improved my sleeping - at the "cost" of a few hours a week at the gym it feels like I have more free time than I've had in years!

My hobby started when I was 12 and a lot of my money has gone into it.
It's hard to put a per month on it but so far this year I have bought:
A Presonus digital mixer £750
2x active stage monitors £300
2x Laney AH150 multi purpose combo's at £150 each.
There's bound to be other stuff and only today I'm in talks with a bloke selling a Line 6 Helix Stomp for £300.
It's been a very dear hobby for the last 53 years.

Completely agree that doing exercise gives you so much more energy which seems to lead to more quality free time. If you do nothing you will want to do nothing, it’s human nature unfortunately.

I get up early during the week to run Mon, Weds and Friday which only costs me trainers and clothing now and again. Tuesday and Thursday I swim which costs £25 a month.

This sets me up for the day and by the time I finish my work day and get home I’ve still got the energy to engage my other hobby of cooking where I spend whatever I want feeding my girlfriend and me. I don’t know how to explain this but I’m managing to relax whilst also ’doing’ at the same time, I think that’s the real secret do it.

8 hours sleep later (which is really important) I’m ready to start again, I’ve charged my battery ready to run it down again by being active rather than lethargic.

It varies. Main hobby these days is Coffee drinking (as in specialty coffee) either at home or when I'm out. Last month I bought quite a lot of Coffee beans (£70) but that lot should see me into 2024. Visited a couple of Coffee shops in Sheffield, York and Cambridge but I had another reason for going to those places or I was passing close by. Home Cinema has more or less passed me by, I hardly put mine on now. PC & upgrades are few and far between as all I do these days on PC is watch streaming, surfing the web, being on here, the odd bit of personal and work stuff etc. My gaming days are over now my sister's sons are adults and have their own PC's which I built for them.

Reading this makes me question what am i doing with my "free" time...

Does the dog count as a hobby? cos he costs me around £80 in food and treats a month

I make beer every once in a while, 1 gallon normally costs about £6 in ingredients

My photography costs nothing, havent updated my gear in nearly 2 years.

I buy a lot of my books 2nd hand of ebay, so do a £20 purcahse once a month which normally nets me 5 or 6 books of a series.

Wanted to get into models/ war gaming/ DND but theres no one in carmarthenshire and all my adult friends are not nerdy enough.

Music kit ain't cheap!

A guy in my brother's band has the helix 6 multi-fx pedal and that thing is a beast!

PA28, TB10, Tecnam P2002, and hopefully soon, I can add C172 to that list.

Do you fly?
I do not currently fly. My father-in-law has an RV10 and my brother's brother-in-law teaches with a C172. I had a former boss who (now) flies Phenoms for a living. He spent many years teaching others in propeller planes before he had enough hours to train and then transfer over to flying jets.

Yeah I expect it's a bit tricky to find enough people for dnd in Carmarthenshire.

On stage I have the Helix LT and I want the HX Stomp as a backup.
This is a tiny proportion of my gear on stage.
The amp to the right I have 3 of them, I own the 3000 watt PA and the stage monitors in that picture.
I have gear all over Stoke in different places.

I'm enjoying seeing all these hobbies guys, makes me want to try some and certainly gives ideas to perhaps pursue in the future.

Had the culmination my the racing last night with the awards event in Solihull (Motorcycle Museum).
managed to get 3rd in the championship and get my first trophy :)

It's even a successful year with thankfully only one big off, my winter hobby is repairing it to do it all again next year :p

That assumes one has the power to be anything else, or to somehow defeat the system. The system demands that most people to spend their lives working for the benefit of a few. But that's another thread.
You don't have to defeat any systems to have a few hobbies, the only system that needs defeating is the one in your brain.

It's very easy to do nothing, as humans we are prone to sitting around doing nothing because we feel tired, and a degree of mental fortitude or self motivation is needed to break that and say "I'm going to do something". My wife is far worse for this than I am, I often have to force/convince her to do something and when she does that she invariable enjoys it.

I don't spend that much on hobbies, relatively speaking:

Gym - 20 a month, don't go that often to be honest.
German Lessons - 500 a quarter, 5 hours a week.
Reading - I probably spend 100-150 a year on books
3D Modelling - This is free, but it does consume a lot of hours. I tend to do this in the late evening (8-11) where I would otherwise be sat watching TV or something
Cycling - I buy a new bike every 3 years or so at a cost of 1000-2000. Minimal outlay on tyres and grip tape (150 a year?) and clothing (150 a year max)
Plants - I grow tropical, subtropical and temperate Drosera (sundews). I don't/can't work out the cost of lighting as it's part of the household bills. Maybe 200 a year on plants and the odd bag of soil
Travel - When I get the chance I like to go away on train journeys. This can be expensive, so I only go 3/4 times a year. Probably about 1000-1500 a year.

I don't see holidays as a "hobby" so I am discounting that.

I've not actually taken a detailed look at the cost of my hobby.
I race superbikes and have a few sponsors who help out when needed, but for the most part it's all out of my pockets.

Typical race weekend (once a month)
Entry fees £500 (includes test day)
Tyres £1200
Fuel van £120
Fuel bike £120
Food and drink £60
Sleep in a caravan so no accommodation costs.
So about £2000 give or take a hundred or two if I can get more life out of the tyres.

Naturally it's pretty much free if you ask the wife...the less she knows..

Do you get money back from race winnings? Or are these the sort of track days where it's up to the individual whether to race or go at their own pace with no such thing as 1st/2nd/3rd.

If he's racing superbikes then it's absolutely competition, nothing like a track day.

At present I’m spending zero on hobbies, over the years I bet I‘ve wasted over £10k easily on hobbies that I went full steam ahead into but later they lost my interest from;

Renovating a TR7 (sold for huge loss)
Tropical Fish
Coin Collecting
Records & Jukebox
Gym Memberships
Collecting Toys (Including Hot Wheels)

Hiya Semple,
No nothing you'd get at some trackdays where they'll put on some fun races.
It's serious racing, extremely competitive and costly :( thankfully I've a few sponsors that help me out with parts etc.
We can earn money (not a huge amount) normally for placing well in a championship, but you'll find at the very top end, in series like the BSB, WSBK and even motogp, there's riders that don't really earn money and normally bring a substantial amount of money with them to the team in exchange for the seat.

I do it because I'm just competitive and enjoy it, there's guys wobbling about at back of every grid that are just doing it for the crack.

I used to spend £200 or so every few months on collecting Transformers figures.
Not the £20 kids stuff from ToysRUs though, but rather highly engineered limited run pieces with realistic vehicle designs aimed at adult collectors that look almost exactly like the cartoon and movie designs.
It scratched an itch somewhere between collecting realistic scale vehicles, screen accurate action figures and indulging my obsession with overly complex fidget toys
