Been looking at the brochure but there seem to be so many different packages and small print.

Basically, I would want:-

1. Fast(ish) broadband with reasonably decent download limits eg. 30GB per month and without Torrent blocking.
2. Be able to watch all the Liverpool Premier League games.
3. Flatmate wants one of the movie / music channels.

How much would this cost? And do I need a BT telephone line? How much extra would the HD version cost?

You need a BT phone line - for some reason (and I don't get this) they will not install if it's Telewest - I find this a load of crap.

As for packages - movies and sports (and you still won't get every Liverpool game - that's guaranteed) is going to be around £50-60 per month + phone line rental (so add another £12-£14). You do get Sky Broadband with that - but I wouldn't say it was the quickest (never paid for it but helped a mate with his and it was slow and had slow torrents but that could have been time of day, etc.)

Maybe look at NTL but that's still going to be the same ball park.

£17.50 basic + £1 for music pack + £10 for bb (with sky talk, £15 otherwise) + £50 for box + £17 for movies and sports + £30 installation

£45.50 a month
£79 inital charge

£11 a month for a bt phone line, £10 a month for hd.

~£120 charge to install a bt line.

So potentially £66.50 a month and £170 - £200 inital cost.

£36.50 a month
£79 inital charge

~£100 charge I think to install a bt line.

You need to add on Sky Sports aswell for the Liverpool games.

Going by the Sky website:

Basic Variety Pack = £17.50
Music Pack = £1
Sky Movies 1 = £8
Sky Sports 1 = £9
Sky Broadband Unlimited (the rest have too low download limits each month for you) = £15

Monthly = £50.50
One-Off Cost = £79 (install+box)

If you want HD, add on £10 extra too. Having just Sky Sports 1 will mean that you will probably miss a few games since they do spread them out. And with ESPN being more again monthly and now having the rights to some Premier League games, it will be more.

I currently have: Variety, Music, News and Style & Culture, Sky Sports 1 and HD which works out at about £39 odd a month.

Phoning up and asking them would really be your best option here.

They should advise you on the best prices and packages etc.

The broadband doesn't torrent block either.

There broadband is good, though true speeds will depend on how many other users they have on your exchange. If thet have not unbundled your exchange the unlimited is about £18 or £10 if it is unbundled.
Have you though about BT vision - they traffice shape but only at peaktimes.

It'll be £72.25 each month for HD, with a one off cost of £49, but you'd get a £50 Tesco voucher.

If you want to watch all the Liverpool games that are shown live then you'd need all of Sky Sports and ESPN which is why it comes to so much.

I have every package from SKY TV, I also have there best internet package too. I currently pay £72.25 a month.

Regarding some of the above comments. A BT line is required, however, SKY will pay for the BT instalation if you have never been with BT previously (I paid for BT to come out and instal the line, then got a form from SKY (A sales rep in any mall flogging SKY has these and can give you the form to fill out) to get the cost of the BT line back.

The High Definition package costs £10 (this fee is included in my above price I pay). Eventually it will be free but it may be in a few years. The pause/rewind/record feature use to cost £10 but that is now free.

No sports channel will broadcast all the Liverpool games, SKY does have (probably) the largest coverage in the UK. There is an additional channel (ESPN) that shows games but that channel is an additional cost per month.

That price you quoted also includes the internet you receive since I pay the same amount.

I received £50 M&S vouchers for getting the movie packages.

If you shop around you will find offers for a free box or instalation. Also refer a friend may have some good introductory offers.

Bloody 'eck...expensive. Thanks for the info though.

Does each Sky Sports channel cost £9 each?

Sky Sports 1 = £9
Sky Sports 2 = £9
Sky Sports 3 = £9

ie £27 in total? or does £9 get you all three channels?

£9 gets you one of them, £18 gets you all 4 (Sky Sports Xtra).

The link I posted earlier in the thread contains all you need to know.
