How much does this forum cost to host each month?

I have seen websites far bigger than this forum that only cost a few hundred $ per month and run on a few cpus, we're talking millions of hits per day huge image galleries. So <£10k pa is my estimate.

I'm sure Spie stated a while ago it was costing him in the region of 100k a year, maybe more now.

Most definitely not. I remember it differently. The figure was about the £25k mark but that could include shop hosting.

It more then pays for itself.

Spie disagrees. From what he has said, the amount of revenue from the forums is only a minority of their business.

I would be very surprised if the custom generated from this board doesn't outweigh the costs incurred. Of course I may be wrong and I'm not saying this is definitely the case :).

I buy pretty much most of my stuff from OcUK, more so now that the forum users have been given free shipping.

Of course he would. He'd rather the forum be seen as a 'benefit' rather than a commercial tool. Also working out how much revenue the forum generates is tricky, certainly not as simple as counting clicks. Who knows how many people's orders are influenced by what they read in the forum whilst not even being a member.

The amount of business in comparison to their whole business perhaps, but when you think of the business they might not get from return customers, who have stuck around for this place > forum cost

The linking of forum accounts to shop accounts for the eligibility of free shipping will give a good idea as to how many forum members purchase from the shop and how many don't.

Obviously there are those who won't yet have linked their accounts, but it will still give a reasonable figure.

Docklands in London, the well known DC there is Telehouse. I'm more than convinced that is where OcUK will have its hosting setup :)

Pretty sure it's in TCRB Sovereign, but it's possible it's in TCRB Harbour Exchange. :)

It's easier to calculate now, due to free shipping and assigning your forum account to your real account.

would be interesting to see rough percentages. Although people who use the forum might just buy from here anyway, regardless if teh forum existed or not.

Like somoene said though, you can't quantify it all though forum accounts, etc.

The amount of unregistered users who buy things will probably be quite high and are likely to have their opinions swayed into purchasing after reading reviews/opinions here!

You are dead right, if the forum was here or not I'd probably still buy parts from OcUK.
