For what may I ask?
Many things - such as my video editing, I prefer to keep my CDs ripped as FLAC files so they take up a lot of space and I also have many copies of anything that's of any importance to me so nearly half that space is for backup purposes alone.

Thats fine. A 500GB HD will only format to 465GB

The server's just got drives in stolen from other systems until I can get the cash together to get a couple of 500gb drives. As soon as I do that I can move all my media over to that and then all the other computers will stream vids/music from there.
In total I guess it's just under 1.5tb but it's over four computers so it's not that bad really.

You haven't lost anything. The drive is 500GB - 500 x 10^9 bytes. Windows counts in Gibabytes - 1024*1024*1024 bytes but labels them as GB rather than the SI designation of GiB. 500GB=465GiB

You probably dropped 35GB along the way.
Desktop: 1x 160gb and 1x 120gb
Server: 3x 40gb and 1x 20gb
Was going to get two 250gb SATA drives for the desktop and have them in RAID... just for the hell of it Might still go ahead with it. I'll then move the 160gb drive over to the server and have the 120gb for backups.
