Most seem to be shouting for 8GB/12GB...

What's the betting these are some of the same folk who called the Titan X's 12GB complete overkill when they first came out??? :D

Umm and they are wrong? 12GB when it first come out on the Titan x most games didn't need 4Gb at 1080p and 4GB was fine on 1440p. It was 4k at the time that we saw 4Gb struggle at 4k but we didn't have the grunt for single card at 4k.

But now as times have moved forward games have got more demanding and now we can see 1080p/1440p might still be fine on 4GB but is right on the heels of 4Gb so no one wants to have a 4GB card with a next gen release. They wana future proof with their next card.

So ofc they want 8gb or potentially 12 as they might wana upgrade to 4k res which will need more memory than their current res.

My 980 Ti is barely enough for me at 4k so ideally without breaking the bank 8gb would do me as an extra 2gb would be nice for me followed by additional performance :)

Those are the people you should actually listen to, they are the ones that know you will run out of grunt way way waaaaaaay before memory.

exactly. These GPU's arent powerful enough to need 8gb, unless you enjoy playing at 30fps.

depends... GDDR or HBM
i would take 4gb HBM, over 8gbGDDR anyday

Why?

I regret going with 4gb's of HBM rather than 8 gb's of ddr5 and next gen I bet the 4 of hbm fares worse than today. If they stick only 4gb's of hbm on anything faster than an average speed card in the next range I'll avoid it like I would a plague sufferer.
I'm sure it'll do fine on the replacement to a 380x but I certainly wouldn't want anything 390 level or higher on it.

Why would anyone want 8gb vram? There are £250 cards out that have 8gb vram surely you want better than that?

the question should be dose the GPU have the power to use the V ram?
Give a card 24gb of ram but if it as the GPU of an 960 it can use it.

Massive amount of ram are only good for Stupid £1000 GPU's or mid range CF/SLI.

Went with 8 cause I'd like to aim for more than I feel is necessary, but no higher as I don't want to waste power allowance on unnecessary memory, nor pay extra for the card than I need. As I'll be single-GPU I'll be running out of grunt before RAM anyway most likely.

What you using yours for, MS Paint?

Call of duty black ops 3, i use CAM software for my grid+ and it shows usage of cpu/gpu. my 780ti use's 1.75.gb of ram @ 1440 ultra setting. just because you think you need loads of ram docent mean you do.

GPU ram is just the system ram debate, you need 8gb to game 16gb to be safe for a few years but ppl still put 32gb in a gaming.
