How much Twitch Streamers Make (and the insanity)

You're making out that there are the 50k sub streamers, then everyone else is making nothing. There are loads of people making a decent living from streaming. I don't know the exact % of people making a decent wage and I'm sure your 99% was plucked out of thin air.

I suspect some of it down to this being relatively new... youtube is established but a youtuber can't make too much with that level of subscribers... twitch comes along and boom, otherwise more mediocre content providers can still have some decent income.

Much like game development had been around for quite a while before mobile apps came along but some earlier entrants to mobile gaming did rather well with rather basic content, it was a less competitive market initially and it allowed for some indy developers to make some nice $$$ whereas if they'd stuck to modifying existing games etc.. or trying to launch their own PC games then they'd perhaps be making much less if at all.

You're aware there are also a lot of streamers on twitch who aren't in it for the money and the fact they treat it as a social aspect? While they have admitted some subscription money would be nice but they like the fun aspect and social interaction while they have their main job.

Not everyone is in it for the sole purpose of getting rich.
 
Playing video games all day for a living may seem like easy street, but like anything it isn't.
Having to play to sustain your living rather than playing only when you feel like it is quite an effort.
Like turning any hobby into a living risks that you lose the love of that thing and it turning into a grind like most jobs.
You become reluctant to take any time off because time away is potential income lost.
The highs and troughs of a lower level self employed income make it difficult to financially plan.
And if you've not done other things and do it for a long length of time it makes your CV very narrow if it all falls through. The other types of income related to streaming are already hotly contested.

I don't doubt that but the comment (and indeed thread) is about the people making money. I'm sure others do have fun on the platform, you are aware that is the case with youtube etc.. too?
 
I dont mind if they are all paying tax. Some states of the USA residents pay 50% tax or more, if smart and they can remote work really they should move to Puerto rico which as a territory not state levies no tax though not sure if its that easy to be resident. One of the funniest streams is Hasanabi who is socialist streamer friends with AOC but also a self made multimillionaire via this means ex-young turks staff if you know that channel.

Also I would seperate money aquired purely from Twitch and those who donate, its of their own free will and already taxed money nothing to criticise imo. I think they should be more inclusive and provide subtitles perhaps, that would be something advanced and just about possible as many streams operate with a small delay

I stream on Twitch. It depends what you mean "as a beginner". The first thing you have to do is get to Affiliate since you're not going to make any money otherwise, so you need 50 followers and an average of 3 viewers for a month. Not hard. Still, a lot of people don't make that. Anyway, presuming you've done that, you can start making money...

Now, what's really important is that you build a community. Get on Discord so people can talk with you offstream, be chatty there, be active. Make sure your server/channel has a focus and that your channel has a clear vision, be it a genre, game franchise or variety streaming or whatever. Make sure you have a face cam and make sure you talk. No dead air. In the early days no-one will come to your stream - this is good practise for filling dead air which you will always need to do. Just make sure you are always saying something, and something relatively interesting and relevant, that you are invested in your games, and that you are interested, excited and eager to be streaming. 'Energy' is the keyword.

Be consistent. Keep to a consistent schedule. The more you enjoy your chosen game or games, the better. Soon enough, people will start to discover you. When people start coming, do not look at your viewer numbers while streaming, disable them. They fluctuate a lot during a stream and watching them go up and down can really distract you and affect your performance. Just remember, do what you do because you love it, the rest will follow.

How much will you make? That depends on a lot of things. You have to keep your channel fresh and active. Keep switching up redemptions, sound alerts, etc. Pay attention to what people want but keep your mind on what you love most. If you're lucky you can make hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year, just keep at it. Above all, do NOT think of Twitch as a living, just a supplement. For every payout you get, be thankful. And always always always give back to your community and tell them how appreciative you are.

Surely the twitch stream is basically like the footy on tv and the commentators/radio commentary? Regardless if they're playing or if they're simply watch the content and commenting?

I assume you're aware of the hot tub section? That I never knew of was there until a month ago. I thought people were joking when they were talking about it. There's even sleeping streams nowadays.

Interactive Big Brother TV has become reality. The frightening part is, lots of people watch them sleep. Like what the hell... Hundreds to a thousand sometimes.

I did not, but I am aware that there are several porn sites on the internet. Twitch is something I do after 5 cups of coffee :D
