How often do you get a new GPU?

Every 2 or 3 years. Only had my current 280x for a little over a year, bought 2nd hand from MM and plan is to replace it with 1070 next month though I might treat myself to 1080 if the price is reasonable.

e:
mid 2005: 7600gtx
late 2007: 8800GT
mid 2009: 260gtx
early 2012: 560gtx
early 2015: 280X
Soon back to green side :)

Before i got the 290's (only one now), yearly.

I've had this card over two years now and it's still very capable. I will be upgrading later in the year though, just cause, I feel the need for a new toy.

Just checked my OCUK account and it took me 18 months between my 280X (Which my lad now has) and my Fury Tri-X. I'll be waiting for Vega at the earliest as I will probably be upgrading Mobo, Processor and Ram before then. Unless the kids spend it first of course. :D

Can't remember what I had pre-2011.

2011 - 1GB AMD Radeon HD6770
2014 - 2GB AMD Radeon 270x (Sapphire)
2015 - 6GB Nvidia GTX 980Ti (Palit)

I'm not upgrading till Volta now, as it'll probably be the card that can handily take on 4K without a sweat, plus the monitor market for 4K at the moment is absolutely horrendous.

When the games I want to play become unacceptable to me, I upgrade. I'm not a new adopter as such unless the timing happens to be right.

Annualy? Every couple of years? Every single time a faster card is released? Once in a blue moon?

curious. A card used to last me quite a few years but this jump to 4K is going to force me to buy a new card within 12 months I think

Depends. Usually used to every 3y. But was the periods where I was playing only 1 game for months, eg EVE, DAOC, UO, UT99 and it's mods (SF, TO)

Nowadays depends. Replaced the 780 because the 295X2 was on offer back in Sept 2014. However replaced it to a Nano in January, because games I play that do not support CF has better performance, or there is issue with dual card (TW Arena)

I will grab an AMD Vega for sure though even if the overclocked & watercooled Nano is covering my current wants....

Usually when they offer a good speed increase. eg 6800gtx > 8800gtx > 560ti > 670gtx > 980ti > ? If the 1080 or 1080ti is twice as fast as the 980ti then I might be tempted otherwise I will wait for 1180ti.

I tend to wait much longer than you guys.

My last card was a 460gtx.

Upgraded to a 970 about a year ago.

I'll only upgrade when I can't play a new game.
I'm not too fussy about graphics quality, games should be more than pretty graphics IMHO.
So I don't mind turning things down a bit.

I also quite enjoy pushing my hardware past the limit.
My 460 was water-cooled custom bios volt moded and overclocked as far as it would go.
Once the card is worthless I can have some fun.

At the moment my 970 is stock but eventually I will need more performance and I'll overclock it.

I have killed a few cards but then I get to buy a shiny new one.

Once every few years

Last card i got was a GTX 780 in 2013

Ill be getting a 1080 on release and i plan on keeping that for at least 3 years, probably more than that

Every 5 years or so.

Game development is dominated by the consoles. More frequent upgrades are pointless.

My 970 will do me until PS5 and XBOX2 in 2020.

Probably on average once a year, actually probably more like 18 months. I sometimes don't always keep them long once my gaming spree is over for a while. Been busy the last year so sold a Titan X after about 6 months and been using a 730 since. Want to keep the next card(s) though....unless want the later model

When my card dies or fancy a change

8600 sli
7850 xfire
7950 xfire, swapped them for a 290, but died after shorting it out
560ti
7970, then went trifire 7970, 2 7950, sold all
290x then xfire with 290, sold 290x
Now on the 290, but will keep it till next year
