How often do you use a pen or pencil to write?

I use a big fat marker pen to write on recipies and mark off check lists....

A couple of times a week ill hand write a product order list for stock taking.
....
Its crazy how little i need to write anything.

Mon - Fri 8 hrs a day with all movements written down, sometimes more than twice and then updated online as well.

This has to be clear and meet standards expected from various countries auditors.

Following on from a recent thread, I was thinking how often do you actually write using a pen or pencil? Given that we all have phones, laptops or tablets and communicate electronically it is probably declining.
Nah, still use both loads.
I use a lot of maps and schematics, where it's cheaper and easier to make marks, alterations and notes on a printed version than to use the markup tools on a laptop or tablet, especially since other people will often add details to them in addition.
I also encounter a lot of parking permits, asset inspection checklists, vehicle log books and other stuff that isn't economical/practical to digitise.
I even carry a Moleskine cahier and a Rite In The Rain pad, in which I make sketches and diagrams for projects. A trip to Ikea keeps me in free pencils for several months. Job done.

Every day at work just to sign in the evacuation register when I start my shift.

Apart from that only to take notes when someone calls on the phone or there is an incident and I need to record the timings and crew numbers of emergency services etc

No other times and thankfully so.

I for one use a pen or pencil to write notes at least 5 times a week. I work in IT but still find pen and paper the quickest way to take notes.

Identical to yourself. I find paper-based notes are quicker and more often than not easier to use for reference as I can makes notes on the notes afterwards.

Been considering getting a Cortex Sidekick.
