Same as fox.. Guess BMW calibrate the E39's about the same
About going up/down hill. Yes it will affect a satnav if its a steep enough hill, but on the whole GPS is pretty close to 'real' speed. About as good as you can hope for anyway.
On my Focus the standard speedo is always a few over, between 3 and 8 varying with speed, compared with my TomTom, but the digital speedo accessed through the diagnostic menu is pretty much spot on with satnav.
i thought all sat nav speeds were only accurate on the flat, i thought it was a common known fact hence why i thought it was a joke by the simplistic nature of the wording
GPS is read by a satellite, which means it can only measure your speed laterally. So technically, when travelling uphill, it should underestimate your speed as it can't determine your change in height.
