how "out" is your speedo!

Same as fox.. Guess BMW calibrate the E39's about the same :P

About going up/down hill. Yes it will affect a satnav if its a steep enough hill, but on the whole GPS is pretty close to 'real' speed. About as good as you can hope for anyway.

On my Focus the standard speedo is always a few over, between 3 and 8 varying with speed, compared with my TomTom, but the digital speedo accessed through the diagnostic menu is pretty much spot on with satnav.

10mph out on my car, not sure if thast has to do with the wheel size change or what? 120 on the speedo but Garmin SatNAV was reading 110??

IIRC, in the UK, one's speedometer must not under-read but can legally over-read by up to 10%.

Mine seems to over-read by around 10% - the more so the faster the speed.

i thought all sat nav speeds were only accurate on the flat, i thought it was a common known fact hence why i thought it was a joke by the simplistic nature of the wording

speedo 30 - gps 27
speedo 40 - gps 37
speedo 50 - gps 46
speedo 60 - gps 55
speedo 70 - gps 64
speedo 80 - gps 73
speedo 90 - gps 82
speedo 100 - gps 92
speedo 110 - gps 96-100 (err?)

generally i just drive at 80mph on motorways and i know im "safe" as such.
