How the hell do Currys stay in business?

I did say in a previous post that nobody can't say I didn't have a go at it if it doesn't work out. It's just that I've never done it before. It looks straightforwards enough but have you lot ever tried doing something while wathcing a how to video on Youtube?
I've got the OS backed up on external hard drive, access to the screw driver but \i need somewhere to keep the screws safe and seperate.

Anyway, BOT. I've had good service from Currys and had no complaints.
it's literally taking out probably 1 screw, removing a plastic cover.

Sliding the old drive out.
sliding the new drive in firmly on to the connector.
putting the cover back, inserting the screw.

putting a USB stick in the laptop and finding out via google how to boot from a USB stick with your laptops model.

which will be something as simple as mashing f8 during the boot sequence for your laptop.

if it doesn't work after that guess what. you put your old SSD back in and come on here and some people will help you figure it out or someone will live close to you.

it's literally that simple.
just don't be messing around with cups of tea whilst your doing it

You're missing the bit where he needs to acquire the right version of windows, write the image to a USB, ensure he has the right drivers on hand in case his wireless card isn't part of the default Windows image, etc.

I already linked him to the media creation tool on the windows website and there's probably generic drivers windows can use to get the internets.

anyway it he can't manage it he can put the old drive back without issues

he already backed up his OS anyway so should be pretty simple for him.

I can hear you and Arknor talking about me.

I've seen the videos on Youtube but nobodymentions about having to reinstall the OS and somebody else on hear told me that Currys don't charge an extra fourty five quid to reinstall the OS (Don't you hate it when you're told two different things?

it's easier if you don't care about your old install you just install windows fresh then log in with your ms account and it should activate.

it won't need a new license just from switching a HDD to SSD

some points
1. I don't drink tea and I know, don't do it after a few lagers
2. Why can't Currys sell the gear you need directly?
3. Of course I trust you lot (thanks for the help on downloading steam games onto extrenal SSD drive (It also works with GOG)
4. I don't know anybody who can do it for me.
5. They nevr say anything about reinstalling the OS in the videos

I went into Currys on Saturday afternoon and made enequiries. Te bloke told me that it'd cost and extra fourty five quid to reinstall the OS but another poster on another thread says I don't need to (Don't you hate been told two different things on the same subject by two different people?)
What I don't like about Currys is that they have staff standing around doing nothing and the fact that you have grab one of them (at least I approach customers who might look a bit unsure and make myself easily available). The Laptop I wanted was out of stock and there was no gurantee of getting one when the next lot came in a week later and they don't put them aside. It took two of them to persuade me to get a Lenovo Ideapad series 3 as I didn't have a plan B (a second option) and to guarantee that it'd run my favourite games and DOOM ETERNAL.

I''ve got a couple of 2.5 inch SSDs in mind- the Samsung one and the Sandisk one. but there can be only one (anybody get and guess the reference? I couldn't resist it).

Highlander.

Anyway, Curry's staff are useless, I do research before buying, and I mostly buy from their online store after reading reviews and seeing YouTube for more reviews.

Curry's delivery for me was good 23/01/2022, however they did turn up at 07:00am on a Sunday morning to deliver the fridge freezer! It was still dark...

Back when I still served with the army, the one in Colchester dropped me a great value proposition.. I could get the laptop for 1800 with a GTX 260m in it or 495 for the refurbished one with a 230m in it.

I took the 230m, in fairness that laptop was perfectly fine for Modern Warfare 2 as it was all I wanted to play on it at the time.
After that I got seriously into PC gaming.

I also got a HP 24WF for 90 quid local.

I strictly remember a dude in our block having an Alienware with a GTX 295 in it, some 20" or near as 1080P Samsung monitor with a Core i7 930 / 920 in it.

Looked a lot like this...

Was awesome seeing what PC gaming looked like.

Curry's have never been a problem for me personally.

I still can
£45? They're taking you for a ride. All you have to do is plug in a USB drive.

My previous laptop still works and one of the bosses this afternoon asked if I had an old one to practice on. IF my theory's right, a transplant could be done or is it a bad idea?
Still can't decide whether to do the DIY route or have it done by a pro. But why can't curry's sell what I want in the shop instead of online.. Another thing I don't like about Currys is at the staff're either busy or standing around talking and you have to go and get one. Two of the salestaff that talked me into getting an LENOVO (who cares if they're a Chinese company?) Ideapad turned out to be gamers themselves. One of them was right about the trouble I was having with Skyrim at the time (I started to only get the splash screen with the four options and then nothing else but it turned out to be the graphics card).
Why can't they sell STEAM cards?

then buy an SSD and upgrade your old laptop, install windows on it from a USB stick.

then format the SSD and put it in your current laptop.

there's probably students in your area with adverts on FB or a local repair shop you could take the SSD+laptop to if it comes to it.

at least you can say you tried and stopped being a defeatist
