How times have changed . . . .

I did get an Amiga for my 7th birthday present though. I still had it when I was 15

Same here, I got an Amiga 500 from my parents when I was 7 and to this day it was the best present I ever had (except my tropical fish tank, although I think my dad wanted that as much as I did!). I had my Amiga till I was around 14.

Just shows that humans are getting smarter. Can't help not to have such gadgets at a young age.

I also got sod all when I was 7. All the spoilt brat comments are just jealously.

lol, I'm soooo jealous of a 7 year old, I can't afford my own 3DS & WIIs.

Woe is me.

When I was 7 I got action figures or a computer game. Perhaps a bike if I needed a new one. Kids these days (can't believe I just said that) expect everything on a silver platter and want everything adults have without having any need for it.

Damn, I was happy with an RC car, a torch or a MegaDrive game!

Whoah there! Smarter? Hardly! The smart kids aren't going round asking elder relatives or parents for iPhones. Those kids are just watching TV adverts and talking with their friends about iPhones and they want one because of the fashion accessory and in school "cool" factor.

So your 7 too? :)

Oh and they can't use them to there full capacity? I am all for it, if you can afford it why not. Its not just the 'cool' factor.

Nothing to do with if they can afford it or not, they just want one because their friend's dad got them one so they need one too now. It's the same with anything of high value that kids have, it becomes cool and the other kids that want to be cool need one too. this was exactly the case at a wedding in May that I went to. Sat at a table with 3 kids on one side with iPhone 4s. I asked about them and their dad's bought them and they seemed to only know how to play games on them and not really any other advanced function.

I wanted Kickers shoes when I was in school because a lot of the other kids had them and they were the coolest shoes to have but at over £50 for a pair I'd be damn lucky if my folks bought them for me!

U.S.Brass it was! LOL.

No wonder kids these days have such poor social skills whent their parents almost encourage them to sit indoors in front of the TV/Computer etc.

When I was 7 I was to be found outside with my mates, normally in the local woods or at the park generally doing things we shouldn't be.

I think I was 11 or 12 when I got my first TV, and I had to buy myself a NES with Mario and Duckhunt by saving up the christmas money I'd asked for from relatives and my parents. It was the only thing I got that year. And do you know what, unless it was raining we all still went and played outside. As for mobile phones, pah, I didn't get one until I was 16 and working. And then is was the first PAYG phone from vodafone, one of the very first digital phones that had text messaging. A few of us got the same phone, and we all said we couldn't see the point of the text messaging, it'd never catch on :D.

I'd say get him some gift vouchers for sports kit, or at least a gadget that would encourage him to get outside with his mates rather than sitting indoors looking at a screen. That's what I'll be doing with my nephews, the eldest isn't even 2 yet so he's easy to buy for, but to be fair he can already unlock my iphone and start apps etc. But he'll still only be getting things that involve playing with other kids/family from me.

Mother of god

That is beyond spoilt, no doubt when he is older will be in debt up to his eye balls wanting all the shiney tech
