how to make an old crt tv appear 'on the way out'...?

Maybe my flatmate was trying to tell my my tv was past it. He was sat there watching it with a lit cndle on top, candle fell over and it took a little while but the tv caught fire. What did he do during this? waited til it caught fire and then shouted for me to come down and have a look :confused:.

Personally i dont mind wasting an old 24 inch crt, so id push it over and blame the kids ;).
 
If i've learnt anything mate since being married... be honest. If you make one lie now, you'll lie later as well.

Also, just say you understand she disagrees, and say your going to do it anyway, and donate the T.V. to someone else. I know my wife would have more respect for me doing that (whilst being annoyed) than deceiving her.

.. and no i don't always get it right.

Lying to get a new TV. A new low.

Be a man, be honest, tell her that you really want a new TV. You'll pay for it with your own money.

Or just deal with the one you have. 24" isn't that small.
 
Tell her its £££ on a new telly or on a PC upgrade for yourself, I think she will choose the telly.
 
ha, some interesting posts guys - i've enjoyed reading them all.

I don't really want to actually break the tv - and i've got a couple of people i know from work who'd gladly take it. So don't worry, i'm not going to waste anything.

A lot of you telling me to be a man, and that honesty is best...i see your point obviously, but i just know that she wouldn't want me to buy a new tv - so if i just go out and get ones it's going to cause a hell of a lot of strife at home which is never a good thing, is it?

Also, we haven't 'only just' been talking about getting a new one. I haven't really gone on about it much at all, but the last time i even mentioned it really was at least a month ago.

And to the chap who said i should always be honest in a marriage - yes, i see where you're coming from, but i think sometimes little white lies like this are necessary. I'll end up spending 500 quid on a new tv which will make me happy, and i'm sure make her happy once she gets used to hd movies etc.

I'm going to give it some more thought, but taking the fuse out of the plug seems a reasonable option.
 
when you are getting rid of it, sell it on the bay and tell the wife that it has useful spare parts so people are willing to buy it?
 
I often buy things I want without consulting my missus, and my missus buys things that she wants without consulting me and that's no problem.

Obviously you have to be responsible if the purchase is an expensive item, but you said in your OP that money wasn't a problem.

Just go for it mate.

Oh and would the OP please grow a pair of balls. If he has the money and he wants a new TV then buy the new TV.

It makes me smile that you post on an Internet forum asking how to fake a TV fault so you can buy a new one. A: There is nothing wrong with the one you have and B: She is your wife/partner not your master. Discuss and then buy.

Get alpha and just buy a new TV without informing her. After all, she's only a woman and what do they know about man stuff like TVs and such? ;):D

His wife has a point, my parents are the same, they don't want to buy a new tv for downstairs because the 26'' rt we have is still working.
But if you really want a new one and believe it will make you happy, then buy it no question about it.
 
Buy a new one and move the other some place while you can sell it or whatever you plan to do, do it while she is out job done. No point in breaking the other just a waste, you could make the other look broke though with the scart tricks and such.
 
See if it has a hidden engineering/service mode (usually found by pressing various buttons on the remote)& adjust some settings, can easily make it look like its faulty.

Do a google using you make & model ie 24" Samsung model no service mode/menu see if you can find it.


Might already been suggested but not Reading all above:p
