*** How to obtain a bike license ***

They'll provide it all, you just need to wear thick jeans and boots. The school will provide helmet/gloves/jacket, for both CBT and DAS training.

Thanks :) phoned my local training centre who said they won't be able to fit me in until 3rd of may, seems ages away but I suppose it will fly! :)

This time of year is always busy, with the warm weather just starting loads of people have the same thought of getting on a bike. I was able to book mine within 4 weeks back in October. :)

Yeah I kind of expected to wait a few weeks, was hoping for maybe a weeks wait lol, but now that was slightly optimistic :p

About my gear for the CBT, will they provide any? Or should i just buy it anyway as i'll be going for my DAS soon after?

My advice is buy your own. You'll have to anyway and I'd rather have my sweaty head in a helmet that belongs to me. Although with my awkwardly large head and giant gut I didn't have much choice. :D

Anyway good luck and try to enjoy it,

There's no point imo, bikes only go as fast as you twist your wrist and if anything a 125 will train you to go full throttle 24/7 which is a bad habit anyway lol

I've ridden a 125cc scooter for 4 months now and had a 125cc Bike for a week, although I sorta understand I can't say I agree with that but the 125cc gives you confidence which not everybody needs but I did.

Cheers bro :) I'm going out this weekend to pick some stuff up :) have already got some gloves, buying a jacket and boots in store as I want to try them on, will stick with jeans for now too. :)

Got my restricted licence in 2012, before they changed the law. I assume after the 2 years, I can ride anything unrestricted. Is this still the case or have I got to do something?

Edit never mind, it's doesn't affect it lol :)

Licenses
If you dont have any licenses at all then you are going to need to apply for your Provisional License, This can be done following the link below or by picking up a D1 Application form at your local post office.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ce/DG_10012514

If you already have a full car license then check the paper part of your license it should state you have 'provisional A' on there, if so move on to the CBT section, if not give the DVLA a ring and inquire about getting 'provisional A' put on there.

Hi guys,

I'd like to get a small 125cc bike and start riding in the UK.

After reading the OP I checked the back of my drivers licence card and I have the following rows on the back are populated

AM
A
B1
B
fkpq

The A row says: 19.01.13 | 30.08.55 | 79(tri)

Does this mean I can go straight onto CBT or do I still have to fill in a D1 and apply for a provisional?

Your paper part should list your provisional entitlements. I think as you already hold a car license you most likely won't have to apply for a provisional.

The A row you have means you have a limited Bike license. The limit is 79(tri) which means you are limited to tricycles until you pass motorcycle tests.

Good luck in your endeavour, biking is great fun!

Unless you need to commute on bike I would skip the 125. How did you find your CBT?

That's my thinking too! CBT was fine, took a good hour or so to get my balance right, kept looking down for some reason! But once i was on the road, was all good. :)
