How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Just put my HD 7850 back in my machine after a month or so of pulling my hair out over constant random atikmpag.sys 116 BSOD's and also my 14 month ocz SSD panic locking me out of windows.

Anywho, after much digging around it would seem that those having dual monitors suffer from this the most. I have done everything including disabling Flash hardware acceleration, changed registry keys, gone to 12.1 cats and updated dx runtime.

So far no crashes. Loaded up trixx, 1200/[email protected] then Heaven. So far so good!.

I'd hate to send this card back as it easily clocks and I have no doubt it would give more but I have never came so close to going back to Nvidia and cut my losses.

my top card overheats so much in crossfire that it causes the game to crash.

i have one betfinix 200mm spectre pro as an intake and 2 scythe gt ap15's as exhaust in a corsair 650d case. The card is on a sabertooth z77 and the sound card which is near at the top even gets hot from the heat build up from the gpu below it.

The second gpu which the monitor is not plugged into does not get very hot when touching the heatpipes, however the one which it is connected too is scorching.

Is there anything I can do?

Oh and my fan profile is at 60% after 50degrees.

Do you think if I flash my second gpu so that they both are on the asus bios it may solve it?

Have it so it goes to 100% over, say, 80C?

It will be very loud then

why is it that only the card connected to the monitor gets extremely hot though? When I connect the monitor to the bottom card in crossfire I don't get a display output.

Crossfire is defo enabled as benches show an improvement and I get the xfire symbol in games, but is it because the air is restricted going into the card at the top thus why it gets very hot? Is this the case for all cards in a SLI and XFire configuration?

Well for 650ish i was looking at the Antec HCG: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371059
And the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

Depending on whether i should go with a modular or just a regular. (The Seasonic 620M version is about 40$ more expensive that the non modular.

For the 750W im looking at the Corsair Enthusiast http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021

Or perhaps the OCZ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341052
It got a couple of bad reviews and i'm not sure about the cable length, some say they're short...

I'd hold off going crossfire, for some reason I'm getting **** results now. My previous 115FPS in heaven started causing crashes in games and since then I have re-installed Catalyst and Sapphire Trixx and now whilst gaming seems to be stable, my FPS in Heaven won't budge past 88FPS.

I have no idea what is causing it but when I use the official AMD 12.4 drivers I get "atikmpag.sys" bsod and only using the beta drivers can I game.

AMD are really ****, I feel like selling them both and going green.

update:

So I've flashed both cards to the Asus Top bios and now after several runs in heaven I can hit 113FPS at 1200/1450/1170V + 20 Board Power Li.

Previously with my single card I did have it flashed to the Asus bios but reverted back to the HIS bios so that they both matched. But when both were on the HIS bios they weren't giving me the speeds I expected and I had loads of crashes in game. So I can only assume that the Asus bios is overriding something and both cards MUST be paired to the same Asus bios.

The caveat is that the card runs toasty and hits 80 degrees, so a high fan profile is needed. I'm yet to try out some games, but if anyone is interested I'll give another update for that.

where did you get your ASUS bios to flash your HIS 7850?

i feel like ive literally tried everything to overclock this HIS card of mine and despite reading stable temp tests at basically everything i throw it i still get the purple screen of death

might just have to RMA it and go with a different manufacturer
