How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

It's a bug with Firefox. If you use IE you'll find it doesn't happen.

For some reason in firefox when you scroll it makes the GPU ramp up to full speed.

Tahnks. Switched to IE now and thats solved the GPU clock problem but idle still remains up at 47 now.

I can't see the option with a quick scan of the tool.

Found it, still no luck though. Locked at 1050 core, 5800 mem max

I had the same issue just restart GPU tool a few times then it should work and activate and deactivate the enhanced clocks and eventually it'll pick it up.

If I remember rightly I had to put it in advanced mode, enable the voltage and limit tweaks. Then restart. Then it was unlocked.

Tbh the ASUS tool is pretty clunky, I'll be glad when Afterburner gets updated. But it serves its purpose.

I've done pretty much every combination and nothing is working.

Out of interest, what drivers are you guys using?

12.3 with cap 1.

Have you rebooted? It didn't unlock for me until I did.

Yup, rebooted loads of times. Uninstalled and all sorts. I'm a starting to feel that my initial installation of the drivers is at fault as I allowed the installation of the CCC. I have since removed it, however, having just now reinstalled the CCC, my old settings were in place still.

Okay, so I have a couple of questions:

a) How does the HD7950 and HD7870 clock compared to this card?
b) Is there a particular brand or brands to go for or to avoid?

Thanks.

What version of ASUS Tweak are you using?

12.4 Beta + 12.3 CAP1

7870 has similar OC limits to the 7850 ~1200-1300 core, only real difference is the 7870 has the extra shaders unlocked (about an 8% boost over a 7850 clock for clock).

7950's tend to top out a bit earlier around 1050-1100 core, but obviously have more shaders, extra memory, wider bus etc that boost it over a 7850/7870 clock for clock.

As for brands, all seem to be doing pretty well, I don't think anyone has tried the HIS cards yet. MSI and the Sapphire OC cards have better coolers than the Powercolor/VTX's (they use stock ATi cooling) but OC wise they all seem to be quite similar. I think there's only Welshdragon that hasn't been able to get 1050 core on stock volts. Everyone in the 7800 thread managed it, and others in this thread have also. Others seem to be hitting 1100+ on the core using ASUS tweak without much fuss.

You need to click one of the 3 buttons in the bottom left hand corner of GPU Tweak. I think it may be the middle one, but I am at work and cannot check. This will allow the Overclocking Range Enhancement option.

Quick update, running 1050 on stock volts and nothings has crashed. Going to start upping the memory soon. Temps are idling at roughly 30 and hitting 60-65 after gaming.

Is it heaven 3 everyone is using? And are the CAP profiles just for crossfire?

Ah, glad you've got that sorted. Was going to say, you must be the most unlucky person ever not to get it to do 1050 on stock volts!

Heaven 3 ya, 1080p, normal tes, 4x Anniso, 4x AA.

CAP profiles are mainly for CF, but do have tweaks and stuff in that help single cards as well.

Ok shall give it a whirl. Do I need to move the power slider? I have now set it to +20 and bumped men clock up. Everything seems fine except Starcraft 2 which threw a wobbly and stopped responding. I have a feeling the card clocks fine and it is just an incompatibility thing with Starcraft 2?

lol you can't let one duff card sway you, just grab a different one, or a different brand.

There's nothing from nVidia atm to compare with the price performance of the 7850.
