How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

hey guys
i've just registered here to thank you for all those really good pieces of information in this thread and on the forums

i've only recently received my sapphire 7850 (non-OC) and was able to overclock it to stable (and healthy) 1150 and 5600 with the help of the Asus tool - no crashes, no hassle

OK so only saw this thread today so got cracking as soon as i got home and this is what I have managed so far and will most probably stay at this to be honest. This is with the Sapphire 7850 non OC.

Got me 7850 instaled and running. Its about the size of a 6850, 1 power socket, and goes slightly faster at stock than an unlocked and overclocked 6950 so theres a gain straight away. Its dead quiet, and runs cool, showing 29c at idle and around 50c-55c under load.
Having overclocked the core to the max in CCC (1050core, mem stock) I got about a 5 fps increase in the crysis2 benchie.
Now I want 1150-1200 on the core so I went looking for the asus tweak tool and every site I go I had to d/l this manager thing which appears to want to take over the world, not just me pc.........so, can some kind person here please givvus a link to a direct link to download this asus tweak tool.
Cheers guys.:)

What card you go for?

What card you go for?

Got the VTX versh mate. I've just installed asus gpu tweak (Thanks for the link Hex, helped a lot) and I've just been faffing around in there and found I can overclock way past 1050 core, memory just by ticking a selection (can't remember which one it was) and I haven't had to uninstal CCC.
Just about to do a few runs.:)

Hey guys I'm using GPU tweak with my 7850 and having some weird issues with the core clock and the voltage.

2d mode my voltage is 825 and clock is 300mhz,
3d mode its at 1075 and clock is 860

However for some reason the card won't take the voltage below 900mv. I've checked using the GPU tweak monitor and GPU Z and it won't budge in 2D mode.

In addition to this the memory clocks are always at the 3D mode settings i.e. 4800 and never drop down to the 2D mode settings.

Anyone got any thoughts on why this is happening??

Do you have multiple monitors plugged in?

I only seem to be able to get 1100/5348 for 1.190v. No where near as good as some of you guys have got.

Mine is the reference VTX model and it is getting to 80+ degrees and is very loud at this clock. I have tried higher voltages but that just pushes the temp higher and I can't really get a higher clock. Shame.

I think the noise may be a bit much for me, what do you guys think about watercooling this card with a GPU only block?

Like a lot of people here, I can only get 1150core @1.198v after that, it bombs out and either freezes or black screens. It seems to me that there appears to a be "wall" causing this as theres some people are having the exact same prob, and the results are too close imho to be coincidence I reckon. I could be something to do with CCC overdrive conflicting, even though when asus tweak tool used, the higher overclocking options appear in the CCC overdrive. saying all that, its probably down to the differences between the cards, luck of the draw I suppose. Certainly quite happy with the results so far, banging on the door of 7950 peformance for this kind of money isn't to bee sniffed at.:)

Alas this is where the stock cooler on the VTX/Powercolors falls short of the Sapphire/MSI cards with their custom coolers.

Even at 1.225V my MSI never tops 72C and is still a reasonable noise level.

I'm rather surprised you need that much voltage for 1100... can you do 1050 at stock volts? I can't see you needing +0.1V just to go 50Mhz...

After a bit more fiddling last night with mine (doing the Crysis2 bench) I found I need:

1.150V @ 1200MHz
1.160V @ 1225MHz
1.225V @ 1290MHz

1300MHz is a no go.

My overclocks with CCC installed were significantly lower than without it. I remember strugging to get past 1150MHz until CCC was removed, and then the card went all the way up to 1275MHz stable with fan on 100%.

I think CCC somehow prevents voltage adjustments being applied, because 1150MHz was about all I could get on stock volts without CCC. My card has now gone to it's new owner (it was a new system build for a friend), so I cannot test further.

1200MHz/5800MHz was it's final 24/7 clocks @ 1.15v (CCC removed). New owner has been very very happy with it. His system was built for WoW and BF3, and the upgrade from a 4890 has been huge.

edited to say: My card did not like >1.2v. Even on low clocks >1.2v would cause slow downs. It seems that without CCC overvolt protection cuts in, but with it you cannot adjust voltages correctly. It would be nice if GPU had the slider to get around OVP.
