How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

thanks mate

Yes I finally got there:

1200/4800/1.155v, now do I keep increasing the core speed or should I start upping the ram speed.

EDIT: I hear on another forum that going beyond 5500 on memory gains little or no performance, what do you guys find?
My card showed gains all the way up to 6000, but others may hit problems if the GDDR5 starts seeing errors at lower clocks. It depends on the card and how well the memory clocks before error correction starts taking place.

Mine showed gains up to 6000MHz, but once error correction kicks in things start going backwards. It depends on how well your memeory clocks before erroring whether >5500 is worthwhile.

When I overclock my gigabyte 7850 OC i can see the values change in GPU-z, how ever when under load the card doesnt seem to go past its stock values (for core clock, mem clock, and voltage.) any ideas?
Which tool do you use for overclocks? Try using GPU Tweak and see what speeds the graphs report.

Generally, lower ASIC values require more volts and are poorer overclockers.

Highest ASIC's for 7850's are in the mid 80's, lowest are mid 60's. Your's is in the middle. My card had 84.9% and could easily do 1300MHz+ but it is all luck of the draw.

Would this be the highest you've seen 555BUK?:D

Sorry, for those with iffy eyesight it says 90.50%

Hi, everyone..
I'm new here, and after a few days that couldn't enter because some problem with spam attacs, then finally I make it (btw, thanx Adrian.. ;) )

Some of my story.
I had a XFX 6870 that came (in my opinion) factory faulty, because I played any game at 95-102ºC, no matter which one.. Of course, BF3 being one of most demanding games, I ran it with those temps.. Of course, never had a crash, or blue screen, or freeze, or anything.. It's a damn good piece of card.. No matter what I did, never could drop temps down. New thermasl compound, cleanning the fan, full system install.. You name it..

So, being tired of playing at those temps, and affraid of damaging anything else, I decided to bought a new card. Readings and a lot of readings leads me to this forums and thread, and convinced me of getting a 7850..

Well, so noy I own a very nice Asus 7850 DCII, which not only runs cooler than my (now old) 6870 (45 vs 62 idle; 62 vs 102 full load) but it also overclocks like a demon.

I mean, I didn't have the time to tweak it much yet, but so far, I'm able to get it at:
1155 core clock
1375 mem clock
1150 vCore

Well, I hope to be helpfull from now on, and thanx to everyone who have posted in here.. Nice results, and procedures..

Best regards.. ;)

HIS ICEQX

Max volts I can select is 1225 using gpu tweak, and at 1100 the fan was pretty loud for my liking so not sure what to do, all i want is a quiet card lol
I recomment the Accelero Twin Turbo II cooler for ~£30. It may seem expensive, but it is really quiet and cools MUCH better than any factory fitted 7850 cooler.

Alternatively, sell me your 92% ASIC and I'll happily ring it's neck:).

Sorry, but you previously posted that you had an Asus, but it was too hot and noisy??..

I live in the Caribbean, and trust me, ambient temps here can be as hot as 32-35ºC any given day, and my card never hit 65ºC at full load on Heavens Benchmark or playing BF3, with only 60% of fan speed....

I was looking at those Accelero coolers for my old 6870, and are very nice units.. But something must be wrong at your ambient temps???..

Best regards.. :p

just been messing a little, first attempt whacked the volts up full, set to 1.2ghz, it crashed, ati driver not responding :( max temp was 81C so im guessing that was the issue just ran heaven 3 times at 1.2ghz but now down to 1150mv, max temps down by about 6c which is my prob, going to keep messing but maywell end up gettting the TTII or similar, do the fans run of the card header?

Reason I got the HIS was I thought the cooler would be better than the stock one it appears its possibly a little better but still not great

At stock speeds I presume?

You returned the ASUS for a new card? Or do you now have two?

Asus has gone back

1225 is a good clock if completely stable. It could be temperatures that are your limiting factor. Even the best ASIC's are restrained by heat.

Well, I've got mine set at 1200/1475 @1.185v at the moment and that's completely stable. Been playing with that on for a few weeks with no problems, max temps with my custom fan profile have been 65c during gaming.

I'm guessing it's nearing it's limit anyway as it takes so much more volts to get it stable at 1225.
