How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Hi guys, I'm struggling a bit trying to find a stable overclock for my Asus HD 7850. I was wondering if you could point me to a general method or approach that I could follow to get it to work? So far I found that 975/5000 is stable @ 1.13v but I'm pretty sure this is not a good overclock. Any tips or pointers? Thanks!

In case its of interest to anyone, here are my VRAM OC results.

speed - Heaven FPS - Heaven Score

4800MHz - 53.6 - 1351
4900MHz - 53.5 - 1347
5000MHz - 53.8 - 1356
5100MHz - 53.9 - 1357
5200MHz - 54.2 - 1366
5300MHz - 54.6 - 1375
5400MHz - 55.0 - 1385
5500MHz - 55.3 - 1393
5600MHz - 54.8 - 1382
5700MHz - 55.1 - 1388
5800MHz - 55.5 - 1399
5900MHz - 55.8 - 1406
6000MHz - 56.1 - 1413
6100MHz - 56.4 - 1420
6200MHz - CRASH

Looks like there are gains at high clocks

Please note

1. these tests were preformed only once per speed

2. I'm using random Heaven settings (normal tes, High texture, 16x af, 4x aa @1080p)

3. using core @ 1170MHz @ 1.15v + 3570k @ 4.2GHz

Safe to run at 6100MHz 24/7 if its proves stable?

The Vram wont be magically over volting itself to reach these speeds will it?

there are gains yeah but less than 3fps for 1300mhz difference isnt a huge gain its a bit like clocking system ram, looks good but the gains are small

Try express uninstalling ATI drivers use driver sweeper and reinstall again, you need to install them twice (once for each card then reboot install the next) then install the Caps driver driver and reboot again.

What Utility are you using and which cards do you have?

Ensure the following for OCing in crossfirex
-Disable ULPS
-Ensure cards are Synchronized
-Set power board limit to max for each card

Then try this:
-Set VDDC to 1176
-set GPU clocks to 1150
-set Memory clock to 1375

If you have Sapphire cards try using Trixx (scroll down under overclocking to find VDDC)

-Report your findings

Thanks man, have been busy past few days lots of exams :(, but will try this and report back :).

Also, how are all of you guys overvolting to 1.3? Haven't been able to read this thread a lot lately and it seems to grow a page each day!

Using asus bios I think, the asus card I had allowed upto 1.3v with afterburner yet it clocked worse than my HIS card with around 1.25v and was noisier too!

Nice, welcome to the 1300 club.

Did you flash the BIOS of does XFX BIOS allow 1.3v?

Thanks. I didn't flash the BIOS. I wasn't able to change voltage in Asus Gpu Tweak, but when I switched over to Trixx, I could up the voltage to 1.3v.

Jschatt, how did you manage getting GPU-Z to display Cata 12.4? Mine won't display anything but 12.3 regardless of which CCC I install. Currently using 12.5 beta (display driver 8.970), but still says 12.3.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I deleted all of my drivers (intel and ati) and installed the 12.4 display driver only.

Well, after some testing, it turns out that ASUS GPU Teak twisted against me..
When I started the program, it completely crashed my system over and over again, locked it down, and started the fans to run at full speed.. Restart after restart..
So, I finally had to uninstall it..
Now, how can I check my voltage values??.. Because neither Trixx nor MSI AB shows it.. :(

EDIT: found it how.. :)

Hi, been playing with my new MSI TFIII and pretty impressed so far. Just flashed the ASUS TOP Bios and managed to get the following clocks:

1325/6000 @ 1.3v

Max it would do before the flash was 1250 core @ 1.225v. I don't think it's got much more in it than this - ASIC quality is a poor 76.5% and it crashes at 1350 on the core. I've not tried pushing the memory above 6000 yet. Card is water cooled with an old MCW60, so temps max out at only 44c.

Best heaven run is 63.3fps with score of 1596. I'll try and post a screenshot when I figure out how.

FYI, I also briefly tried flashing an MSI TFIII 7870 Bios, which flashed okay and drivers installed fine, but crashed after about 10 secs of heaven.

Guys is flashing my Powercolor 7850 to the ASUS bios safe? I'm running them in crossfire bare in mind. I'm just wondering because I remember reading that 555s card bombed out or something like that. Apologies if this question has already been answered.

So, using Trixx I was able to reach the 1200 point at 1220mV..
My actual speeds:
Core Clock: 1200
Memory Clock 1375/5580
Voltage: 1220

How about this numbers??.. Is it safe to have my card at 1220mV 24/7???..
Temps never went over 62ºC at full load during the Heavens tests..

Best regards.. ;)

The only benefit of flashing to the ASUS BIOS is the increased voltage range which may allow for better overclocks (so long as cooling is sufficient). With crossfire, overclocks are generally much more limited. I doubt that flashing the cards is really worthwhile for crossffire setups because 1200MHz is realistically your max, with 1050-1150MHz being more likely. Voltage probably won't be the issue.

So, don't bother unless you really like to tinker.

So long as temps stay below 80 you'll be absolutely fine. 7870's stock volts are 1.2v, and this is the same GPU after all.

After playing the last couple of hours BF3 at Ultra Settings, I reached 1200/1400 with 1220mV, so far.. Of course, after a couple of Heavens passes..

I think this will be my stable OC for now.. Maybe I would do some test on the weekend and report anything else.
I do have to mention: with Asus GPU Tool I wasn't able to reach 1200 never. After uninstalled, everything worked out.. Strange, isn't it??..

Best regards.. :)

Hi guys, I'm trying to overclock my Asus 7850. I am struggling to get my memory above ~1250 because it keeps displaying a grey screen and crashing. I've tried GPU tweak (with voltages up to 1100 and 870 core speed) and CCC (+20% power) at 1050 core speed. This seems like an unreasonably low memory speed and I don't really know what to do. Do I just have a bad card? My temperatures rarely get above 55C and they haven't at all testing the above settings. I also have AMD 12.4 drivers installed.

Has anyone ever had odd voltage readings in cpu-z? Yesterday I got 1.3 and today I got 1.6. I have my voltage in Trixx set to 1.23. What could be causing this? Is it a fault with cpu-z?
