How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

might try trixxs tonight :)

Although Im in two minds about keeping the card simply due to the noise, considered the ac tt II cooler but at £30 ish I might aswell just buy a MSI Twin Frozr card
Can't you just set a custom fan profile to suit your ears?

GPU Tweaks built in fan profile adjustment is ****. It makes cards sound noisier than they really are because of it's stair-like climbs. Trixx is much better because the fans smoothly increment throughout it's range.

I'll try trixxs one out tonight, its just to me it doesnt seem to be a better or any quieter cooler than the reference one, also I hate blue pcbs :p

im almost tempted to get one at the cheap price and buy an aftermarket cooler
El-cheapo VTX + Accelero Twin Turbo II = by far the best cooled and quietest 7850 for under £200. At stock settings it ran cooler and quieter under full load furmark than my Powercolor (VTX clone) ran at idle. Even at >1300MHz with 1.3v it it never broke 65deg.

The Antec Kuhler 620 has a TDP threshold of 150W. The Accelero TTII is 250W. The Accelero will remove heat quicker and quieter, plus cools the ram and mosfets at the same time, and it costs less where I have been looking.

I've just been reading about a guy who put one on his gtx 480. Went from 93 C down to 67 C on full load. If it can cool a 480 it will be fine for other cards.

Hey, guys..
Look how my card behaves playing BF3 at Ultra, or making a benchmark with Heaven..

Isn't that weird, or is just me??.. Why core went from 0 to 400 to 1200??.. Other days, I could saw tha line as a rect one, because of the 99% use of the GPU core..
Any ideas??..

Best regards.. ;)

P.S.: I hope this is how to upload an image.. :)

But the question is is it better than a MSI twin frozr which can also be had for under £200?

Went for the VTX, £40 cheaper than what I originally paid for the MSI, so if the cooler's poor I can change it.

I had the VTX 7850 and the best move I ever did was slap a "gelid icy cooler" on it. Even with a a fan adapter to drop the fan speed a bit, it was totally silent and I never saw any temps higher than 145c load! That would probably rise a bit since the warmer weather has arrived though.

145C

im presuming thats 45C, would I be right in thinking the gelid fans dont plug directly into the card? What about the AC TT 2?

I've got a 470 and have a Twin Turbo 2 on that. Where I was getting highs of 109 on the reference cooler, I've not seen the TT2 break 69 on max load; and that's with the fan at 44% on auto and silent.
Only bad thing I'd say about the card is the removable glue for the heatsinks took a bit longer to cure than the 5 hours they say (took me over a day ).

How much of an improvement is a conservatively clocked 7850 over a 470? I only play at 1680x1050 atm but am I going to see appreciable gains by switching?

Bradmax, the TT2 plugs into the card.

Yeah it does. I got a VTX with an ASIC of 86%, went to 1150 on stock volts and small increases to go well past that. However, like it's been mentioned, the fan isn't very good and loud. If I got an aftermarket I reckon it would easily pass the 1300 mark, not for 24/7 obviously. As it stands my tempts at 24/7 1200/5500 are fine so no point.

Still a gamble which chip you're going to get I guess but don't rule VTX out if you're not gonna run an extreme clock 24/7!
