How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Actually, I can't be bothered messing about now.

Tempted to get him the £199 580GTX instead

Just to double and triple check everything, I put my sapphire 7850 into his machine and gave heaven a quick blast at 1150/1375

flew through with zero problems

Unlucky glen8. I guess it proves that no one card guarantees better results than any other. You must have the poorest 7850 ever, but atleast you have the DSR option. Hope your 580 turns out to be a good one.

I'm not doing DSR, as I see it it's technically faulty. MSI claim 45% OC, and since this won't OC anywhere near that.....and it struggled at 1060 so somethings not right. Hope OC refund my postage.

I guess worst case I loose £6 on return postage....well, my mate does.

So do I tempt fate with the MSI 3 at £179 or just grab the 580.....decisions, decisions. I've bigged up the 7850 to him now though

Typical! Trust me to get a bad 'un :D

If I could find a 580 for 199 id probably get another one of those

Yes, and it also proves that ASIC quality is nothing to go on either. The MSI had a better ASIC quality than my sapphire, yet my sapphire clocks on the core over 100+ extra

i've had 3 crashes now with the sapphire oc @ 1200/5800 1.18v. the first one was as you describe here, although i thought it was a voltage thing so i left 1200/5800 and bumped voltage from 1.176 to 1.18. i had two other crashes where BF3 froze and i heard a loud "BUZZZZ" from my speakers and then the computer restarted. has anyone experienced this before? is it the video card?

those are the only 3 i've had in about 2 months, but with the most recent buzz crash yesterday, and subsequently reading this thread and your post about the vram being the problem, i backed my 5800 to 5600 and am going to try this and see my results.

i've had absolutely no problems with GPU tweak from day 1. is there something better about trixx?

I experienced that buzzing sound before constantly, turns out it was my PSU, not sure if it was just not capable of the power needed or if it was a faulty PSU, but it was a no-name brand, since upgrading to the tx850 all has been well.

Guys, this are my benchmarks, so far.. All were made at:

Render: direct3d11
Mode: 3840x1080 4xAA fullscreen
Shaders: high
Textures: high
Filter: trilinear
Anisotropy: 4x
Occlusion: enabled
Refraction: enabled
Volumetric: enabled
Tessellation: normal

Any inputs??.. If need more info, please let me know..
Yeah, the bench's should be done at 1920x1080, but I think I struggle more my card at that res.. Temps never gone up of 65º, and fan speed never above 65%..

I'll keep doing some bench's and keep it update.. Seems nice to create a graph to show how core speeds/mem speeds/voltage behave.. ;)

Best regards.. :)

Just managed to find my mate a powercolor 7850 PCS+ edition. Will post my results when it arrives. Hopefully it will be a good clocker.

Don't think anyone on this thread has this model so will be quite interesting.

New Virtu MVP is out, normally I get an update prompt, but maybe since I have it off I didn't get one. Anyway downloading now since there is 12.4 support..

2.1.113

Release Highlights

Improve stability

Support AMD 12.4 display driver

Support more motherboards

it lets the igpu inside your cpu work alongside your graphic card in games

yup. ;)

and...... drum roll.......

It finally works. :D

Now benching at 61FPS in Heaven. Previously without LUCID I was getting 58FPS. With previous LUCID drivers the results were scattered all over the place with people claiming at 40% increase with it on which is far fetched imo and benches giving silly 30FPS results.

I hope it matures properly now giving a decent 5-10% which is about right.

Obvious to me that a lot of scores have been slightly inflated by this Lucid thingy and can skew results somewhat. I bet theres a few ppl here wondering why their scores are lower than others when they've got virtually the same clocks, etc.

Does Lucid only work on the Z77 boards?

I have a Z68 which is the older gen of lucid so not sure if it supports running along side my decicated card or not

yeah z77/ib only, there are reg hacks to enable it for z68 but its buggy, maybe in the future it will come out for z68 but atm you can only switch between the igpu/dedicated graphics not use them together like on z77
