How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

I've done all that, reinstalled drivers a number of times. Had heaven crash at 1225 I think it was. Could go again, but I'm getting marginal gains above 1175. Running at 1200/5500 as anything over 1375 memory reduces the score. The most I've gotten in heaven is 1329 which is quite bad :/

Maybe forget Unigine for now and try a few hours of gaming @1200/5500 using fraps and see what FPS your getting and if these clocks are stabil..

Played BF3 for like an hour with everything maxed except MSAA which was off, fps was fine. Dropped into the high 40s once of twice, mostly in 50s while there's stuff going on. Perfectly fine, just can't help but wonder what's causing the performance to be lower than most anyone else.

I'm getting the same results every time I run Heaven, despite what my GPU is clocked to. I'm using Sapphire Trixx, and I'm confirming that the GPU changes applied through GPU-Z. I've ran Heaven at 1150/1400, 1200/1500, 1250/1500, 1300/1500, 1350/1500 changing the voltage between 1.25 and 1.3. Every run I do, I end up with the same average frame rates a score from 1303-1306. What the hell is goin on?

Edit: Also, I have my fan fixed on at 100%

i have the 2500k @ 4.0 and the sapphire 7850 @ 1200/5800 and i get almost exactly 1300 on Heaven also. i wouldn't worry about it, i think it's about right. benchmarks are only benchmarks...not necessarily indicative of real world performance.

what's your 3dmark2011 score? i get about 6800.

Alright I think I figured out the issue. When I bump up the "Board Power Li" it works as I would expect. What the hell is "Board Power Li" and what do I want it set to?

Generally, lower ASIC values require more volts and are poorer overclockers.

Highest ASIC's for 7850's are in the mid 80's, lowest are mid 60's. Your's is in the middle. My card had 84.9% and could easily do 1300MHz+ but it is all luck of the draw.

My ASIC is 81.4% but I can only do 1225 @ 1.25v, is that about right or should it be able to go higher?

Well I generally game with headphones, so it really wouldn't be a a big deal. However, I only have it up that high right now so I can try to push the card, see where it can go.

I suppose you got a point there :),

mine is coming along quite nicely on stock volts,

My rig is weaker than the rest of you guys I have a phenom II [email protected] (will OC and see if scores gets any better)

so far 1170/5156/1.138v stock, uni score 1342, did 2 cycles, temp 56-58°C (now need to check if stable)

Well, I feel like I've finally pushed my XFX card to the limit:

1300/1500 at 1.3v

This was with fixed 100% fan, and was basically the furthest I could push the card. Temps stayed right around 70 C.

I think I'm gonna go with this for 24/7
1250/1500 at 1.25 v

(sorry for the large image sizes)

LI removes increases the TDP limit of the board. With LI set to standard (zero) your board is only allowed to pull ~150W. This restricts overclocks and caused throttling during intensive scenes. LI=20 allows more power (I think it is a percentage so 150+ 20% = 180W), so you can overclock further without throttling.

Now, more power equals more heat, so if cooling is not good enough increasing the LI may not really improve performance, because these cards also throttle above 85deg.

Hello

Anyone have HIS -common version ,not iceQ ,with poor cooler no Heat-Pipe? I wonder in this version its posible voltage change? (msi AB or trixx or asus gpu tweak).

Did you fix that just by changing Board Power Li to +20 in Trixx? I've done that consistently, perhaps CCC is causing it to revert to 0 all the time..
But if I were throttling the chip, wouldnt the frequencies reflect that? I've had GPU-Z log all the runs I've done, and the frequencies stay constant throughout.

My 3dmark 11 score (basic edition, default settings) is P6622, 6546 graphics score, 6959 physics and 6725 combined.

I can see from the information 3dmark provides me on my system that my RAM modules are running slower than they should be? It's supposed to be ~1333 MHz :O
2048 MB Kingston 9 @ 533 MHz
2048 MB Kingston 9 @ 533 MHz
2048 MB Kingston 9 @ 667 MHz
2048 MB Kingston 9 @ 667 MHz

CPU-Z confirms those frequencies.. isn't that weird?

All 7850 as far as I know ALL cards can be unlocked with a simple change in the settings by using either sapphire tool or asus. MSI AB doesnt seem to allow this, which is odd. I went for the asus tool since most of the forums members here used it.
As for your card, well it should be ok but just watch those temperatures, I read in this thread that these cards can still run fairly safe under <95 C. But ideally you will want to be <85 C. For reasons mentioned above by 555BUK

Also I have a question for everyone, how much should I increase the volts by if I find that it is unstable

Jschatt, how did you manage getting GPU-Z to display Cata 12.4? Mine won't display anything but 12.3 regardless of which CCC I install. Currently using 12.5 beta (display driver 8.970), but still says 12.3.

thanks mate

Yes I finally got there:

1200/4800/1.155v, now do I keep increasing the core speed or should I start upping the ram speed.

EDIT: I hear on another forum that going beyond 5500 on memory gains little or no performance, what do you guys find?

When I overclock my gigabyte 7850 OC i can see the values change in GPU-z, how ever when under load the card doesnt seem to go past its stock values (for core clock, mem clock, and voltage.) any ideas?
