How to take stunning pictures - channel 5 tv series

Did anyone really expect a programme on Five, presented by Suzi Perry, to be anything other than hopeless?

She's utterly talentless, knows nothing about any subject she presents, and Five have all the editorial integrity of the Daily Sport.

thing is i like the gadget show :(

I do quite like her, even though i dont find her particularly attractive.

will watch this just for Suzi :)

That's the only reason why I am watching this !;)

as mentioned in this thread it should really have been entitled "so you've been given a camera and don't know how to use it"
As How to Take Stunning Photos needs more than a 23 min program.

Even a neebie needs some tech advice, like what settings / mode to have the camera on. How to fine these modes on say Bridge, DSLR or even top compact cameras. As most are not going to have a DSLR to play with.

This weeks episode mentioned 'filters' twice without actually saying the words circular polariser or gradated neutral density of any kind. And I am sure people do not want to use their sun glasses all the time. So some pointers are needed on these areas.

As mention I am really in this for the Perry', just waiting for her to get in front of the lens, oh yes !
And I do hope there is some Pollyanna & Suzy Perry girly contact in the Gadget show, it will be pure delight ! !

funny thing is they say "you dont need a big expensive camera to take outstanding photos"

Why then was the pro walking round with what looked to me to be a hassleblad ??

Surely by that logic he's wasted his money then ? We all know he hasnt, but they're not just skipping over things they are striding over them.

The lens point is an excellent one, telling people to use a filter, and then telling them it doesnt matter that they've only got a P&S doesnt work. Most P&S cameras dont have filters so your only option is to use your sunglasses like they showed you. But whose going to do that every time they take a photo ?

They'd have been much better off explainig what different types of filters do, briefly, and mention briefly that you can get them for most DSLRs, but not many P&S.

Well I was expecting a brief explanation of most things really, and it just has not happen ! ! ?
Where is this programme going !

Just watched the first of tonights thing on demand five. It's pretty good if your not well versed in sports photography. Use colours for graphic shapes. Clean backgrounds (wide apertures on superteles or clean colors/tones on an in focus bg). Watch your shutter speed (don't be afraid of high-ISOs, even in daylight you might need ISO400, even 1600 on an overcast day) and finally work with the light.

it mentioned the phrase shutter speeds !

love how it spends the first couple of episodes avoding using any terminology at all, then drops phrases like appertures and shutter speeds with no explanations at all.

You can see the contrasting styles of teaching from the different experts, every other expert refrained from using any such terminology.

This was by far the best episode of the series.
Still not enough information technically for the beginners but the pro really got involved and I had a hunch they would have been asked to use pro equipment as an important element in many aspects of sports photography requires low light conditions you need fast lenses for.

Explaining how to to achieve silhouettes was what the show needs. 5 mins explaining how to achieve different styles in each field.

Kudos to the girl with the horse shot. That was very good. Also the pros choice of the lads martial arts shot was a dam good capture.

I know that some of you have been following this - I have also as its something to watch.

With the Landscape episode - Anyone have a clue what size the viewfinder had to be that they were using? (where they had the artist’s viewfinder)

you can use any size you like. So long as it's in a 3:2 ratio. Or 5:4 or 16:9 etc.
