im only asking this because theres a person with a part i want, its going v cheaply and i cant resist a bargain, i also desperatly cant afford to be taken for a ride as its quite a lot of money for me to lose. now ordinarily i wouldnt mind and would just pay up, after all i found it through MM, the only issue i have is that the person has no trust yet and the name on the trust panel is different to the name that comes through his e-mails.

paranoid, perhaps. but i just dont want things to go wrong :(

i guess what i am asking is have there been many instances of MM fraud?

I'd say it's a bit hard to judge how trustworthy someone is when the only contact you have with them is over the Internet. The only way to tell as if they have high positive feedback on MM or eBay, or if they are long-established and reputable members.

I generally would trust most people here since I like to think we've all got morals ;)

It would be nice to think so... but a bit naive methinks, :)

well, they have been here since august with 350 or so posts ? not exactly a flash in the pan, been reading their posts too, the person seems quite polite and helpful...

Ive lost £70 in the MM.

Make sure you ALWAYS get contact details such as address and home/mob number before sending/transferring any money.

I've lost around £40 in the MM, i even had his mobile number etc... managed to get his address. Shame he was the other side of the country =/. Completely incontactable, utterly useless, name and shame: Johnathan Firth. Think his username was jfirth or something to that degree.

Really annoyed me that bloke, apart from a few bad apples the MM is great!

There are some people on these forums who I wouldn't trust at all. Some people who have been here a long time will still knowingly sell broken or mis-described goods. Others are very nice and genuine and will bend over backwards to help you if they can. It entirely depends on the person.

I don't use the "other aution site" but I get the impression a lot of people have problems with it. But I've used the MM here several times with no problem whatsoever (well the only small issue I had was someone not leaving feedback, but I suppose that's up to them). It seems to me to be quite reliable. I tend to check both their feedback but also their post count and join date. If they have been here for a while then it's unlikely they are looking to scan anyone.

But at the end of the day if you buy or sell over the net then there are no guarantees. The person is someone you don't know.

I like to think I am helpful with it, but depends on the person, and also what they are selling!

I would be afraid of anything that was to good to be true, as with anything, it will be too good to be true.

Maybe you could arrange to do the deal in person. Might make it easier.

I do that quite a lot, i always forget to leave feedback, i find it such a hassle for some reason, and i keep putting it off :p. So if anyone reads this im sorry for not leaving feedback, but generally i dont take it into account, because a lot of other people dont use the feedback system either.

Ive got a few to update now, and i just cant be bothered for some reason, i will get round to it, but people need to moan at me :(.
