how trust worthy are people on OCUK ?

Get a landline home phone number, if hes genuine then he wont mind a call to verify.

If there's enough alarm bells ringing then walk away.

Ask the guy to send it 1st (providing you have a decent trust rating yourself)

Trust is a 2 way thing so it shouldnt always fall on the buyer to stump up 1st.

you see the problem was the goods were not available till the later this month, hes not an etailer or anything, just a student at the other end of the country, he offered to get someone up there to post the stuff out to me when i asked if there was any way,

now in his favour he has just sent me an e-mail asking me not to send the money untill he can make sure its going to be posted which seems fair, honest and reasonable on his part.

once i get his contact details and with the way he has acted i think all may be well :)

im going to go for it, he seems fine, probably just my paranoia over internet transactions lol. i will keep in touch and let you know, suffice to say if all goes well this persons getting the best feedback comment ever written :)

One person who annoyed me in the MM got permabanned shortly after, and another who was slightly dodgy (though really it wasn't his fault there were probelms with the sale - but the dodgy part was because he was a trader, which is against the rules), and there was another time where I broke something I bought, which was a bit stupid.

But I've also sold some stuff on there and bought lots of photography stuff, for far less than the shops. And saved a lot of time.

So there is probably a net gain - either way, as with most things, the vast majority of people are decent. And the MM is certainly a much safer place than public auction sites.

Say your not paying until you have recieved the goods since he is a first time seller?

Send a cheque on the same day he sends the goods then you will have a chance to make it bounce if needs be?

Check the post count. If they've been here long they are unlikely to stiff you as it would ruin their reputation here.

if only. i've been stung by someone with over 1000 posts and 80 positive comments on their trust. i got some goods but the specs didn't even come close to what was advertised....

that experience hasn't put me off the MM though..... :o

Been on the internet for about 10 years now, to this day there is still only about 1 or 2 people that i have made friends with on the net, that i 100% trust. Everyone else has to go the paypal route! :p

I've lost around £40 in the MM, i even had his mobile number etc... managed to get his address. Shame he was the other side of the country =/. Completely incontactable, utterly useless, name and shame: Johnathan Firth. Think his username was jfirth or something to that degree.

Really annoyed me that bloke, apart from a few bad apples the MM is great!

jfir was his username, and I lost some money from the wazzock as well.

Lame asshat.

EDIT: Notice you've not left him his negative yet. Do it.

He shouldnt be selling on there if he doesnt have the goods to sell there and then anyways. Im sure thats one of the rules .

Yep, I would personally tell the MM Dons about that as it should be a suspension IMO. That's quite a naughty rule to break.

edit - personally that would be enough to put me off buying from them - that and the fact they're not an established, high post count member. Bearing in mind they have no Trust feedback and it's an expensive purchase.

Mostly had no problems with buying stuff from MM myself. Though there was a guy a couple of years ago that I bought some stuff off who kept making excuses why he couldn't send it out to me. Just threatened him by sending a small claims court form in the end, soon got my money back.

Just be careful most people with decent feedback and long term posters are great but once I made the mistake of trusting someone on the amount of time they had been here.

Spankey_Monkey was his name and the guy pulled out of a deal after he said he still needed the item said he'd give me a extra £1 for my trouble too! I even had his address and phone number but nothing and he even deleted his email account. The worst thing was I saw him make a for sale thread a month or so back now.

I think it's abpout time I left negative feedback tbh. Serves me right I suppose one mistake and that's me down £50.

Well unfortunately for me and a few others I got ripped off through MM, it was at Christmas time too  !!, someone called "Toufas" :( At the time he had a good trust rating....

So my budget for a GFX card has disappeared now, I paid up for an ATI X850, nothing arrived, Toufas disappeared.... :(

But I have had good experiences through the MM in the past.

I am trustworthy never ever ripped anyone off.... I kow how it feels for someone to take your money and do a runner, its not nice.....

For the love of god, why aren't people leaving negative feedback for people who've stiffed you? You've been ripped off, and maybe somebody before you had too and didn't leave feedback which in turn didn't put you off the transaction.

If you have a bad trade, let us know about it so others can avoid like the plague!
