how trust worthy are people on OCUK ?

For the love of god, why aren't people leaving negative feedback for people who've stiffed you? You've been ripped off, and maybe somebody before you had too and didn't leave feedback which in turn didn't put you off the transaction.

If you have a bad trade, let us know about it so others can avoid like the plague!

Hi, if that refers to me and the fact that my name VR46 is not in Toufas's trust comments then lemme explain :), my friend bought it on my behalf with my money. My friend is chasing this guy up atm with the other people too. Toufas is not active on the boards now, this saves others from getting ripped, it was reported to the admins and since Christmas, his account is suspended..... until he explains what has happened I guess...

This guy built up his trust rating and then advertised loads of goodies at Christmas when people were buying gifts and in one fell swoop advertised sought after false goods, took the money and disappeared - Evil

Because this guy did it in one go there was no avoiding it, at the time he was selling he had a Good Trust Rating!, he had obviously planned this out, Fraud.

I am well dissapointed :( I have lost my hard earned cash, I dont have a lot of money either, danmmit :( I dunno what will happen ....

Ive lost £70 in the MM.

Make sure you ALWAYS get contact details such as address and home/mob number before sending/transferring any money.

This annoys me somewhat, I've done a few deals in the MM and I've always, without fail given them my full name, address and home/mobile numbers. Whereas out of the 15 or so deals I've done I think at most half have bothered to give me all of theirs (often no phone number etc).

The trouble is that I'd feel like a pest to keep asking for details and it would hold up the transactions. In an ideal world I could afford to do that, but I've missed out on deals before because I've been waiting for a communication from the other party.

When selling I tend to deal with people with higher trust ratings, even if they weren't first to post in the thread. That's harsh on the newbie who needs to get a start and build up some trust of his own, but equally I have to look after number one.

When buying an item, if the seller doesn't have a decent trust rating I'll be looking at other factors like how long they've been a member, and a quick scan of their previous posts. In particular I look to see if they've been reporting any problems in other sections of the forum, e.g. say they've talked about dead pixels on a TFT, and now they're trying to sell one, or something about an unstable graphics card and now they are trying to offload it etc.

At the end of the day, however, a well thought out scam will be very hard to spot - if people are prepared to build up a good trust rating over a few months due to mutliple accounts and a bunch of small deals with genuine ocukers, then there's not much that can be done to stop them.

Fortunately I've never been scammed, I've had people who just stop communicating in the middle of a deal and stuff like that, but I've never lost any money/goods. At least I must come across as reasonably trustworthy because I get people to send me money via bank xfer/cheque and wait for it to clear, don't use paypal etc.

I have had many good deals from M&M.
The first thing i do is swap details and get on a house phone. Reassuring for both partys.
Secondly if its an expensive item i go and meet them. I didn't want my GFX card or the 1 i was swapping going by courier so a suitable meet was set up and cash and trade was done.
I always pay by postal order which has to be sent to an address odviously the address cannot be false otherwise they dont get them. You keep the tabs and send them by signed for mail. Can be tracked and you have proof of sending. Yes there is a fee but i feel this is acceptable given the cover.
None of my bank details are given out and i ask none from the other party. When they receive the P.O's they can be cashed at any post office.
I must say though that i do check the seller out via previous posts his post count the time he has been a member hi s feedback and anything else i can find.
The only thing about M&M that annoys me is peeps who Don't leave feedback.
Good or Bad it must be left.
Once left others can use it to cross check previous deals adding to confidence or making others aware of Dodgey dudes. ;)

I would like to think that members with high post counts and that are well known here value there accounts like i do. I hope i am not being naive.

i had mostly good dealings with people, only once did i deal with an idiot. i offered a swap, something that was brandnew for something that was used, the guy lied saying it was all there and it came missing the most important part. the shroud on an alpha pal is most definately needed imo...
i think he got suspended for it, but incase hes been allowed back since, dont deal with "MC Storm".
if i wanted something expensive from MM, i would go and collect it or save and buy it new.

You cant base it on a whole can you, almost everyone could be trusthworthy then one guy rips you off. I always do a little (or try) research on them first if ever you trade with a stranger

I've done a few deals on MM, and for the most part they have gone smoothly. I've had 2 people who I've agreed prices with, they've said they've transferred money to my account, and nothing has ever shown up. The person then doesn't respond to emails. Luckily I never send items until I've got confirmation of payment, or confirmation that the cheque has been cleared. I've also had a couple of people not pay or send an itme until prompted/reminded several times via emal - they ALWAYS have an excuse. Whether these are genuine or not is anyone's guess. On the whole though it's not a bad place, and people are trustworthy.

~30 very pleasant deals on the MM. Prolly lulled into a slight false sense of security though. If someone is an established user with plenty feedback I don't tend to trade contact details which as emphasised by A2Z and HangTime is always the wise thing to do.

Bought a fair bit off the MM here, and also sold a bit so i've had my fair share of experience with MM. Great idea and great place to trade and its a privilege to use something like it.

As previously mentioned only ever had problems with feedback, even after deals have closed I have mailed people to ask for feedback after they have received an item and still nothing, espeicially after I leave feedback myself.

Only ever had one problem with MM where I got stung for £60 when the other party claimed that they had not received the goods even though Royal Mail were saying that they were delivered on time with a signature. Based on that I personally will now only deal with people with higher ratings if I am purchasing, or anybody purchasing as long as they pay for the item before I post it out.

Love the MM though, hope it stays around for a long time to come. Also want to thank everybody who I have dealt with where everything has gone smoothly, including a current deal which im going to pick up tonight myself, from MM, can't wait :D

Have dealt with you on MM at least twice to my memory, a mouse and a HDD. Have never had a real problem with buying off anyone on here, although I did sell something recently ands it turned out that the product wasn't what I was lead to believe that it was. All sorted and nobody lost out, just one of those things.

I say if you can't trust a fellow ocuk'er then who can you trust ?? We all seem a bunch of good eggs. I'll admit I have come across some right pains in the rear end here, but I din't think that anyone has had to call the police because a deal went a bit breats up.
