I must be misinformed because my X1900XT 512MB was £199 and some fool tricked me into believing that's high-end. Boy do I have egg on my face for falling for that.

I think that you also forgot the little issues of VAT, and that the UK generally gets ripped-off in general when you convert dollars to pounds. It will easily be more like £250-£300 over here for Vista Ultimate.

Also, anyone who buys Vista and a DirectX 10 card purely for DirectX 10 gaming is going to be disappointed as they will be spending £400+ on one or two games and their hardware will be obsolete by the time it stretches its legs. I don't know about you, but £200 per game is a bit much for me. ;)

Yup, I am sticking with XP until DirectX 10 is actually implimented. That way I either spend nothing next year or a little bit going X1900 Crossfire, and I will still be able to play Crysis looking as good as the videos we've seen. :)

I've used Microsoft's "upgrade" packages before, they tend to cause more trouble than they are worth. You're also forgetting VAT and UK pricing again, so you might want to put that up to £200 or more.

It's okay though, go Vista and DirectX 10. I hope spending a fortune on a couple of games fulfills your needs and it's your money to blow, not mine.

I should hope not, but the way some people in this thread talk about Vista and DirectX 10... ;)

Windows XP does everything I need an OS to do. I've used Vista Beta 2 and will be using RC1 pretty soon, and I've seen absolutely nothing that works better for me on Vista than it does on XP. That's personal preference though.

You didn't answer a single one of my other points though, so I'll assume you get the message.

I won't be switching to Vista/DX10 until we've reached the point where I'm going to see some real benefit from doing so. That means either games that don't work on XP, or at least 3 or 4 good games that look significantly better under DX10. That could be a year from now. I wouldn't spend £500 just on making one 15 hr game look a bit better.

Neither would i, i still can't believe those are DX10 shots for Crysis in the link above, looks identical to what weve seen on the x1900 in DX9 from the vids, whoever is gona spend £600 on that wants their head read. :D

What link? I have not seen this.

I can't wait to see how Crysis looks like an entirely different game on DirectX 10.

Get Transltr to calculate the physics for me. :D

"TRANSLTR supposedly has 3 million parallel processors and is housed within the NSA's Crypto headquarters. Also, as a gage of speed, the NSA's second fastest computer would take one million times longer than TRANSLTR!"

Haha! Owned! :D

Lol you nubblet... I take your TRANSLTR and own you with my atari 2600 !

There they are in all their glory,DX9 shots, oops i meant DX10, thats the trouble with it looking exactly like DX9.
I see what you mean, those screenshots look exactly like what we've seen on DirectX 9 hardware. I even went as far as looking for captions saying something like "Crysis in DirectX 10" but couldn't find any.

I seriously wonder what goes through peoples minds when they say "I will buy G80/R600 and Vista straight away for DirectX 10 gaming."

Will Crysis run on my ZX81?

If no, how many will I need to parallel together to achieve a good framerate?
:D
You may need to start by getting a 2GB rampack, and a decent book to rest it on, to stop it wobbling.

V1N.

It's ok , I've sorted out the power supply requirements as well. Now that Star Trek has finished I've picked up some used dilithium crystals on flea bay.

If they can power the starship Enterprise, Crysis shouldn't pose to much of a problem.

Then again.....

Stargate is on in half an hour, how about a ZPM to power a PC to play Crysis? :D

I've got an even better idea. I'm going to build a house next to Sellafield and tap into the power
I'm just going to call that Freeman bloke and see if I can blag his suit :p

Wow - I had one of those. Remember that Smurfs game? and Moustrap, and that Rocky game with Clubber Lang and those dodgy controllers.
Thought I was the only one who owned one!!
Those were the days!! Always wanted the Vectrex as well. :D
