How would Arnolds physique fare in todays Olympia...

If you want to talk Football can’t you go do it in the football thread or something?

And as to why people would want to do BB well believe it or not there is a shed load of money in it what with prize money and sponsorship and maybe your own brand of supplements and so on and on not to mention what it could lead to like acting or maybe even becoming I don't know...the Governor of California... shock horror.

i believe it is arnie's acting career which got him to that position and not the bodybuilding part, obviously arnies acting career followed on from bodybuilding, nowadays how many pro bodybuilders get into movies that hit number 1 on the charts? none, so the chances of it ever happening again are slim.

there was the hulk guy as well, he has been in a lot of top films, but this is a new age and bodybuilder's dont have the acting talent to pull off a hit movie anymore.

Up to is a pointless statement and you know it. Few players in the world will ever earn that, you know that also.
The percentage of pro footballers that earn £100k a week is tiny. The people you mention are at the extremes of the payscale, so should not be considered.

he would never have got into acting if it wasn't for BB, hell he would never have left Austria if it wasn't for BB…

What's with all the football talk in here? We have a whole sub forum for that

And I'd rather wear fake tan for a couple of hours than have to wear something like Evertons pink away kit for 90 minutes every other week. It's a ridiculous argument anyway, how did we even get on to "I'd rather play football than do bodybuilding", wow I never knew there was such a thing as personal taste, is this new?

This springs to mind:

Depends what you want in life really.

The only reason Arnie got into films like Conan and Hercules is because he was the build he was...So yes, it paid off in the end. And look where he is now, I wouldn't moan about it :p

Maybe you've got a raging homosexual urge wanting to burst out - you should look into it as straight men can easily chat about a professionals physique without a titter or implication of "gayness".

It's ok buddy, lots of people are gay these days. :)

To be fair, Mr Olympia was started and run by men who liked other men... which is hardly surprising, nor is it surprising how in denial most body builders or fans of body builders are in denial of the massive homosexual side of it.

During Arnies time HGH wasn't widely known about, things like Dianabol could be bought over the counter and designed for olympic teams. It's now prescription only on the NHS and given mainly to AID's patients. The availability and change in what is available has meant there has been a change in the aesthetics. Arnie was the best of all time imo.

Dbol is given out on prescription? I know somethings were but not that!

Also no one said there isn't a gay side to bb. There is a gay side to going out clubbing and also gay dressing, doesn't stop straight people clubbing (Inc going to gay bars) and dressing :p

Right, but clubbings biggest and most profitable side and main history doesn't come from the homosexuals.

And yes, Dbol and most stuff is available on the NHS within reason, but I believe we are drifting into medical chat which is a no no on these boards.

It's mainly advice that isn't allowed...and obviously the talk of 'illegal' substances.

Again, not denying there is a homesexual side to BB, of course there is. But Mr Olympia certainly wasn't started by any homosexuals :p

Joe Wieder created it as an almost unified title, all the Mr Universe winners could enter to compete further and earn better prize money. Joe Wieder has been married for 50 years :p
His thing has always been about the fitness side of things, there's a very good interview with him that's come out recently on BodybuildWeekly, maybe give that a listen

Does anyone on here actually train with a desire to one day compete?

Not in BB - but maybe strongman stuff if I ever get strong enough.

Yes yes, I know all that, though thanks for bringing it to the attention of others. Clearly you took my comments far too personally.

As for prescription of steroids, of course they're prescribed, in certain circumstances to help recover from extreme muscle atrophy during prolonged periods of sickness. Furthermore, artifical male hormones were designed to help principally for TRT in men. Similarly that's why drugs like anavar were developed - there's always a reason why certain drugs are developed, not designed specifically for bodybuilding - clearly the science behind it works and as such it has inflitrated itself into the world of BB and the rest is history... just like an easter egg or a cheat in a computer game/program, once discovered spreads like wild fire.

Good points made by you though about the use of them in the "old" days vs the modern drugs.

I agree, it's a shame that now people are using ridiculously high amounts of drugs to better themselves and absolutely ties in with the change in aesthetics we can see.

bodybuilder's dont have the acting talent to pull off a hit movie anymore.

not really, it's just that "the population" no longer likes big guys.
The Rock would have been super-famous in the 80's as he is a talented actor and a charismatic person, yet he's hardly known of even though he's been in a few films.
Fair enough he's not exactly a bodybuilder, but he's an example of a big muscular fella.

It's because of mainstream hype. Guys like arnold and even up to vin diesel a few years back and what not were what girls wanted. But now it's all about Russell brand, olly murs, basically pencil neck ***** in check shirts and skinny jeans, girls up here go daft over them. So instead of the 15-18 stone tanned hunk that girls used to go daft over. It's now the 7 stone pencil neck with a mop hair cut that they go daft over lol.

To be honest:

I've seen many guys that look exactly like this ^ that get stunning blonde bombshells, it's very very common up here! makes me sick tbh.
