Interesting read for anyone who's new to vr like myself and still learning how certain things work.

Steam VR's motion smoothing is pretty bad, and generally creates wobble in the image or lots of artefacts. I had to turn it off as it was really distracting. Oculus's version is much better. WMR headsets have their own form of motion smoothing. I'm not sure how good that is compared to Steam or Oculus's version.

When I finally got it, i thought meh.. But after a couple of days it grows on you. im running it on 3080 and 5ghz system which helps. Maybe it placebo, but my muscle memory has prob tuned into it, Like a new pair of vari focal glasses eventually you automatically ajust to find the sweetspot for different focus lengths.
The biggest problem i get is trying to get into steam on the headset from in game to adjust settings as im still tinkering. Off course this is flawless on the Index cause there a button. But this seems to keep putting it from desktop on the screen too taskbar minimising it. When you put it on screen, and change settings it crashes.

@Twinz @Zeeflyboy
I'm getting somwhere with AMS2
I'm now cranking the MSAA to medium with a very clear and sharpe image, and shadows are back on,
And with steam resolution at 100%,
In the rain is truly a amazing sight in the gt cars,
So where was I going wrong,
WMR motion reprojection is now set to auto, that has helped me with the ghosting issue I was having with MSAA,
Next MSAA caused the image for me to be soft, I forgot about the sharpening trick in the document files, I set it to about 1.6, and wow is all I'm going to say

Total pain isn't it. I use that button to navigate around my computer when sitting in my sim rig during downtime in qualifying, i miss it so badly. You can bring up the steam overlay with the right controller, the small button next to the windows one.

You can play around with the settings doing that, as well as the WMR settings within steam. Just means you need a controller handy, and those things have a use by battery life.

Yep, i've no idea why they don't document that. When you've dialed it in run an open wheel 70's gen retro at Cadwell Park, it's one of the most amazing visual experiences in VR.

FYI... I had an issue where my G2 wouldn't run at 90hz.
Turns out it didn't like having my main monitor run at 72hz. Changed my monitor to run at 60hz, and well OMG... I thought my G2 was good before. Now it is amazing!

Open the graphicsconfigopenvrdx11 file in the Automoblista 2 folder in you're documents.

Edit: <prop name="SharpeningStrength" sharpeningstrength="1.100000"/>
<prop name="SharpeningClamp" sharpeningclamp="0.090000"/>
<prop name="OffsetBias" offsetbias="1.000000" />

Just change the SharpeningStrength from whatever you have.

Last night i played Phasmorphia, all around the edge was a white light, similar to your day one issue in the titanic game, its almost as if the image is not being projected close enough to the lenses , if that makes sense,
Yeah also the god rays are not as good as i expected around the edges but the are perfect when looking directly at something that would usually cast one, big bright white writing on a black background for example

That's really interesting then. Sounds like it really isn't a fault and potentially a coding problem. Do I cancel the fault raised with HP then..

On the driving sims, @Zeeflyboy RFactor2 isn't something I've looked at yet. Is it a subscription type thing like iRacing or is it that you need a load of DLC to get up and running properly. Can't remember but there was something making me stay on the fence with it.

With Automobilista 2, I've again held off so far as the YT reviews make the physics look a bit off in terms of basic movements of the car. From the recent comments though looks like I might need to take another look at it. I tried Assetto Corsa last night and it was ok. Running scaled down to 72% and with MSAA reduced to medium and a load of other stuff turned down I had some fun with it but to say the visuals were a bit underwhelming would be mild. Also, the interaction between menus, SteamVR and WMR meant everytime I wanted to change car I got dumped all the way back to SteamVR so I must have something not setup quite right.

Dirt Rally 2 was a little more polished in terms of navigation. Turned everything down again and visuals were ok, certainly not blown away. I did manage to last 10 minutes round the Dirtfish freeplay before I had to give up. Then a bit of dodgy headache and feeling a bit pants for a while afterwards. Really want those legs!

So I need to have another proper look at Rfactor2 and AMS2 by the sounds. Is there a consensus then with these tweaks that AMS2 has is gonna give the best visuals/performance right now for car sims?

I dont want to say not send it back mate in case it is faulty, but I only get that issue with that one game, no other game does that, so that leads me to believe its phasmorphia, not the g2

Not subscription no, lots of free content and some paid DLC but not particularly expensive if you pick them up when on sale. The only paid for DLC I bought for it is the track expansion bundle (nurb, le mans, sebring, d'azur), the 488 GTE (currently 4.49 and a beautiful looking and driving beast!) and the GT3 bundle... the packs aren't especially cheap at the moment but there's a lot of stuff in there anyway, lots of free stuff and you can just wait for the next sale.

Much better than it used to be, still maybe a little bouncy but really quite fun overall.

With my limited GPU RF2 actually arguably looks the best, the others are sufficiently demanding that I have to lower everything so much that they end up looking worse.

G1 user here . (Same resolution just different )
Agree RF2 has by far the best wheel/tyre physics which aids in immersion. Some very good free tracks out there like the IOM TT course , Brianza ( The original monza circuit) , And Belgium 1966 - the original Spa circuit. All great in open tops

Vr Simwise have a look at Raceroom (R3E) free download (on steam) with a few tracks and cars. Its a dx9 so no real weather or night driving but pretty good FFB and very tunabable which aids the immersion. ( if you decide to go and buy tracks / packs then get the VRSP from their store - much cheaper)

On a side note :
For Dirt rally 2 : Main performance culprits trees (low) and crowds (off) and use cmaa, (AF=x16 is a must) the "occlusions" = off Turn all the replay/ post effects off also best to check in the Config file that TAA is set to 0
Also move your driver position forward as it helps with the exposure / HDR

Got a tracking number from Systemactive and my G2 is out for delivery :D :D

I too got a tracking number this morning, and also had mine delivered about 2 hours later.
So here is hoping you get yours soon.
Now if only I had a good enough GPU to power it and free time. :o

Edit: Sorry, didn't know we where specifying order dates, mine was at 10pm 4th August.

So i tried the 60hz mode in AMS2 after it was suggested to me,
Frames were a solid 60, 100% SS, MSAA Medium,
To my surprise it was the best experience i have had so far in AMS2,
But there was this constant refresh rate flicker?,(ive no idea how to explain it better lol)
In the open wheel cars it was very noticeable when looking at the sky,
Shame because everything else felt great
