*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

I think I'm lucky i had no problems with my G2. Took a day off yesterday and spent 8 hours in VR. Apart from blowing up during a spacewalk, I had no dizziness or headaches or anything.
Fortunately I don't have a AMD mobo which seem to be the source of some problems with this headset.

This is my first Vr headset and I have to say, when I visited the TNG Enterprise bridge I almost teared up.
It's immersive and amazing for sure.

(I'm trying to watch some movies in a theatre in VR, any recommendations how to do that? Simple desktop mode is just a window in front of me. Is there a mode or app for a big realistic cinema screen? )

DeoVR is free on Steam VR. Have used Skybox on Oculus Quest which is good, but costs.

VR is something else :) And yeah, for a Star Trek Fan, Star Trek Bridge Crew is an amazing experience! Wish they had kept developing it further.

Get in. Really interested to hear how performance is, keep us posted!

Marvellous news, once you've had time to have a play around would be interested in how you are finding the performance

Performance wise I don't really have a frame of reference as it's my first foray into VR.

I've briefly tried a couple of games, the Project Cars 2 Demo, Elite Dangerous and also Project Wingman.

Project wingman is the only one that's given me any grief so far. The cockpit HUD/rader completely breaks immersion, and the game felt unfocused outside of the cockpit so I up'd the render resolution to 150% so things became clearer. However it was then completely unplayable due to the drop in fps ha.

I for sure need some more game time before reporting back properly.

The cockpit in Elite Dangerous was visually impressive and did get a 'woah' from me, but I'm not that interested in the game itself so didn't stick with it very long.

No ideas on the Wingman one, but have also tried Elite Dangerous briefly, after it was free from Epic the other week. Seemed to be quite resource-hungry, didn't tweak much but was getting 60-80fps on the 3080.

Project cars should run nicely with a little tweaking though, for me VR with a decent steering wheel is what I always go back to, you really do feel like you're in the car.

Yeah I also picked it up free via Epic, what are you using to monitor your FPS?

Project Cars was running nice, but having to use the keyboard to steer was less than ideal!

Really want to give some first person shooters a go, I know the Index is meant to be better for that, but hey ho.

Best thing for Elite i found was to run at 100%SS and disable AA Ingame, make sure ingame SS is at 1.0 as well,
I need to test more but think reprojection worked well in ED when i tried it for when its needed

How long do the batteries last in the controllers? It appears buying suitable rechargeables 1.5v AA in the UK isn't that easy.
i bought a pack of 8x1.5v recharables with a charger for about £35 from ebay.

i have spent a lot on VR the past couple of months!.

incase you want a seller i know is ok (or was for me at any rate)... gone up £5 since i ordered however... delivery took maybe a month.

Thanks. How long do none rechargeables last ? I've had my rift a couple of years and only changed the batteries about 4 times - I mainly play SIMs and half life. I'm hoping my G2 will be here next week but who knows given what's happened so far :p

Unfortunately the life on these is miles from the excellent touch controllers, despite taking double the number of batteries. And the batteries they give you are also awful, lasted me a couple of hours max.

Thankfully I mostly use them just to get into SteamVR and then switch off, but was planning to revisit Alyx at some point

I don't know if there is some sort of bug with the controllers but batteries show as low very quickly.

Fully charged 1.5v batteries and new non-rechargeable 1.5v batteries were showing as low after single play sessions, and i haven't played for more than 2/3 hours at a time

Disclaimer: I don't have my G2 yet, it's still with Just-Dave (:)), but I heard on the internets that if the voltage drops significantly below 1.5V - it triggers power saving features on the controllers, which makes tracking very bad. Check you voltages when things go south with controllers again, if you have a voltmeter that is.

Perhaps the best batteries for a WMR controllers would be the ones that operate at a higher voltage but have a built in transformer to reduce the voltage to 1.5V - like a lithium ion cell. These should output a very stable 1.5V. I got these ones. Link. I paid 32 pounds - they were on sale. I can't vouch for their quality though because see the Disclaimer. :)
