*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

Today is not a good day...powered on my headset this morning all i now get is a 4-1 error on every USB 3.0 port inc hub i have..

Iv been on phone to HP support they are sending me out a new cable, Only problem is its on a backorder so could take weeks :(

Obviously there’s a huge selection bias, but there does seem to be a not-entirely-insignificant number of people experiencing that... headset fine, all of a sudden 4-1 error.

Might point to a weakness in the design of the cable.

Out of interest do you bend the headstrap up when putting it on? Does the cable kink by the connector when you do? Does the power brick light up?

Also worth trying to disconnect the headset cable, then re-seat it. Possible for it to work ever so slightly loose over repeated use.

I lift the strap up but only a bit not all the way up as i heard it can disconect the cable

Iv Re seated the headset cable...Power brick lights up, Soon as i put the USB cable in WMR poral comes on screen then i get the 4-1

Iv seen on Redit that others have had to repleace the cable

Hmm - My order direct from HP has been sat at the "packing" stage for 3 days now. Hoping they haven't oversold on their stock. Expected it to have shipped out or been delivered by now.
Looks like the headset without controllers is in stock and has a 48 hour delivery on it.

In other preparation, I have ordered 4 "Kratax" AA Li-ion batteries from the rainforest. As my current batteries are all 1.2V NiMH and not suitable.
What are you guys using?
I'm using Pi Cell ni-zn 1.6v 2500mWh

I get the 4-1 error rarely, like 1 in 20 times I power it on. Sorry to hear your having it permanently, it must be frustrating having just got the headset.

Cheers mate it sure is a bummer but its no diffrent to anything else you could get...At least i have another headset...With any luck i wont have to wait long for a new lead

reasonably easy to set up

make sure you have a USB C or B port free (USB C wouldn't work for me for some reason so used supplied dongle for USB B v3)
Make sure you have power socket free.

Install Open XR and WMR from the Windows store
Update steam and download Steam VR

Plug headset into the DVI port, USB and connect power cable to little power box on headset cable.
Put headset on, you should then go into the WMR home area. adjust IPD (little slider under headset) to match your eyesight
then have a wonder around the home area
then play a game

should all be good from there

Thanks. All setup and had a very quick go of HL Alyx. WOWZERS!

The clarity sweet spot is hard to achieve though without the strap on VERY tight. Can you get a slightly thinner face gasket pad thingy? I need to have my eyes a little nearer the screens ideally.

What's wrong with you.... you are supposed to scream and shout and say how crap everything is, didn't you get the memo?

Do you have any source for the VR cover thing? Last I saw the general sentiment was they are making way too much money with quest to bother with a comparatively low volume product like the G2. While I'm very happy with my own printed interface it'd be great to see a company like them start making accessories for it.

The only current option is a 3d printed one, or some people have literally forgone the plastic part entirely and just attached a cushion directly to the headset.

If going 3d printed route this is by far the best I've personally come across:

Alyx is great isn't it, I found it quite difficult even on easy, others say its not difficult for them, must be my age :p
About the thinner gasket, there's a couple on ebay if you haven't got access to a 3d printer. One is cheap and doesn't come with the magnets or pad, the other is dear (49.99) but comes complete ready to go but they have no stock right now. I bought it a few weeks ago when it was 29.99 and its pretty good. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-Rever...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

What makes you say that's the best gasket?
This one seems the most popular - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4666466

Got some new black filament arriving today. So can start printing this weekend.

Tried that one, it’s ok but a relatively poor design by comparison IMO and also needs to be supported over the whole print. There are walls that are too thin to be particularly strong and it isn’t any wider than the stock interface which most people that need a new interface will actually want.

The one I linked is able to be printed without supports (although I did tweak the file in fusion for better built in supports for the two small areas that need it) so is a much faster print and has consistent wall thickness throughout which results in a much stronger print too. If you want the modified file for the different supports shoot me a trust and I’ll send it to you.

You’ll notice there are also options for normal/wide/extra wide so you can choose what you like (I recommend wide) and you can take the file into fusion to edit to your liking as he included the fusion file which makes life a lot easier.

Sadly my 3080 is still on backorder..
So, is Display Port 1.2 a definite fail? Because I'm not getting any video on my G2 even though it seems to be working just fine in all other respects.

Thank you! Will try it out for sure.

Min spec is quoted as 1.3 as 1.2 doesn’t have sufficient bandwidth so 1.2 card is likely the problem.

May be worth setting half resolution mode in WMR (or failing that perhaps 60hz mode) as far as I’m aware that actually halves the output resolution so will bring the bandwidth required down. Perhaps will still fail the handshake but worth a try.

So the speakers. I know there are lots of reports of one speaker not working properly and I feel I'm in that boat but I can't be sure. My right speaker sounds a lot quieter than the left but when I'm using it the sound seems balanced somehow, it doesn't seem to throw the perception of where the sound is coming from off, at least not noticeably. Anyone else experienced this?

I had to re-seat my right headphone. Just undo the screw, clean the contacts and the pogo pins, re-seat carefully to make sure the pins seat properly... no problem since.

Another new BIOS for the Auros X570. About to install so we'll see if it makes any difference to the G2's little... quirks
  1. Update AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.1.0.0 D
  2. Performance optimized on Ryzen 5000 series processors
  3. Add Re-size bar option for AMD Smart Access Memory support
  4. Improve connection stability for USB 2.0 ports of USB hub
  5. Improve system stability
**Edit** Actually looking at the versions numbers (F33a installed, F32 is the latest version) this isn't even an update so won't bother with that...
