HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

I’m not buying an XsX or PS5 for VR, rather for general gaming. I’m primarily a console gamer. We built our first PC in I dunno, 15 years ish, over the summer which spurred the G2 pre order shortly afterwards as my kids and I are VR curious- particularly for sim racing.

The PC is primarily my 15yo sons, youngest and I will barely get time on it. With new consoles to occupy our time, the G2 is just turning up at the wrong time if I’m honest. That said, I’ll probably keep the pre order, get a VR taste then decide whether to sell it on.

Son wanted to buy a 3080 but that’s just been impossible. Youngest has his preorder in for a PS5 and I’ve got a PS5DE and XsX preordered so we are all good there. As to what to play on them - it’s just like buying a PC graphics card, many existing games will be smoother and hold 4K easier, new games like Watchdogs Legion, Valhalla, and Demons Souls will look next gen enough to justify the purchase. And heck, the PS4 Pro to PS5DE cost me £130 to upgrade. The X1X to XsX was £200 to change. We’ve upgraded three current gen to next gen consoles for less than I paid for the G2 and they absolutely will get much more playtime than the VR headset.

Is there a reason you aren't considering a Quest 2? If you're curious about VR, it would seem like a good starting point? No need to upgrade the PC, but if you do enjoy it, then it can do PCVR too. And it puts good money back in your pocket?

Quest 2 isn’t really ideal for tethered sim racing. The compression and slightly delayed response times aren’t ideal and won’t help if susceptible to motion sickness which I expect to be. The Q2 also wasn’t available at the time, but by the time you factor in upgraded strap and speakers, the Q2 isn’t that much cheaper than the £525 for the G2 and isn’t going to be as good for sim racing which is my main interest in VR.

Son will be upgrading PC regardless to keep up with next gen gaming. Heck, he just wants a really fast frame rate in Destiny.

Fair enough if sim racing is your thing.

Still think extra cost argument is a bit off though. 3rd party headstraps will be cheaper and most people already own headphones don't they?

Think the suggestion of selling it on for a profit is a good plan though.

I don’t see how? It doesn’t take much to fill an iPhone or iPad these days, so the 128gb would be a no brainier. £125 difference between the 128gb and the G2 before you consider better sounds and a strap is already a small price difference to pay for a better headset. Even a couple of hundred isn’t a big deal. I draw the line at the Vive though because then the cost is getting out of hand.

Fair enough, I do think keeping the pre-order is the better choice though. You’ve waited this long, only a few weeks now! You can try it out and keep it if you love it. Alternatively sell it for likely a profit over pre-order price after deciding VR isn’t for you, or sell it for a profit and use that profit to pay for a good chunk of a Quest 2 if you like VR but feel like the value proposition wasn’t strong enough for your use levels.

I’m pretty confident in saying that if you like sim racing you will absolutely love sim racing in VR and I’d wager you won’t want to sell it.

For myself for example I love cars, love driving, always thought I *should* love driving games but despite owning many over the years just never played them that much... they always felt boring for me after a relatively short time, even with a wheel.

VR totally changed that, and I could suddenly drive for hours without getting bored of it, Initially project cars 2 and then more recently moved on to Assetto Corsa Competizione, RFactor2 and AMS2. That was with CV1 and Quest, where there is a definite issue with resolution hampering the experience but it was still such a transformation. I can’t wait to try it out in the G2!

thanks. I’ll hold on to the pre order and see how it goes.

But you've just said you plan on using it for pcvr. So you don't need any space at all. If you're going to get heavy usage out of it's standalone abilities then it's providing a massive feature that the g2 can't match.

I guess with a big family all playing on it and potentially different major releases you could need the bigger memory, but it still becomes an apples and oranges comparison.

I just don’t see the a use case for Q2 over G2 for PCVR. It’d end up being used as intended as a standalone VR. Ultimately it’s impossible for such a comparison not to be apples and oranges as they are intended for different markets. But as I said in previous post, even going for the smaller version and having a couple of hundred difference in price, it’s not enough for the compromises in PCVR. If my primary reason for getting VR was not sim racing but VR experiences and less complex games, I’d absolutely be tempted with Q2. But £225 more than the smaller one, 125 more than the more future proofed size, it’s nothing if PC games are the primary focus.

I've pre-ordered from Amazon Spain when it was the lower price in the hope that my previous issues with my rift cv1 (motion sickness brought on by a neurological issue I had at the time and has since subsided a lot) might be reduced with the improvement in picture quality and my general improvement in health. If I don't get on with the headset and need to return it does anyone know if it would need returning to Spain or the UK? Amazon's own policy for international sellers stipulates that they must have a UK returns option available but I've seen some mention on other forums that returns goods have to go back to Spain? Seems a bit odd if marketplace sellers have to provide a better service than Amazon themselves.

It's not uncommon for large companies in a position of power to have higher standards for those that profit off them.

For example if a smaller online ad provider gets hit with a malware campaign, Google threatens any site with their ad code by dropping it out the search listings and putting big red warnings about their site being dangerous, even for a while after the issue is resolved. Funnily enough when Google get hit with massive malware through their advertising they don't recommend that people remove their ads...

that rule is for sellers selling via .co.uk, if you bought from .es then chance are you'll have to return it to spain, but if you got it for the cheaper price there's good odds you could sell it for more than you paid if you need to get rid of it, and any warranty claims should still be handled by HP directly so you wouldn't need to send it to spain

I use a CV1, sim racing I'm ok with motion sickness, though sometimes would feel a bit dizzy/nausea. This was running Assetto Corsa, occasionally dropping from max frame rate. Since then, got a much faster cpu and gpu, running at the frame rate cap all the time, and no more weirdness happening.

On the topic, I have pre ordered a G2 (second batch) so maybe around December can throw my 2 cents in.

I'm hoping that reviewers will start getting final samples soon... Would be good to get some content based on the final headsets talking about the improvements to brightness, lenses, quality etc to scratch the itch.

Comfort - G2 Better
Sound - G2 Better
Visuals - G2 Better.

Controllers - Quest 2 better

Unknown - Tracking.

Quest 2 is wireless, which is a major plus.

Yeah, it's a shame about it not being wireless. I do wonder if it'll be worth double the price of a Quest 2. Oh well, I guess the proof is in the pudding.

Coming from someone who has G2 on order and is currently doing their best to resist a Q2, this might be controversial but I honestly think for a lot of people it simply won't be "worth" the premium.

Obviously value is highly subjective and depends a lot on how much disposable income you have for hobbies. If you don't even blink at buying a £700+ GPU or £1000+ monitor then I doubt the price premium over the Quest 2 is going to make you think twice if you believe the more expensive headset will suit you better.

That said £200+, giving leeway for elite head strap and some earphones, is a big chunk of change to a lot of people. The Quest 2 looks really quite good... sure, it likely won't beat the G2 in some very important areas such as comfort, visual experience, audio experience etc but it does also offer things that the G2 simply can't (eg stand alone capability, wifi streaming, oculus' superior software stack, the excellent passthrough+, capacitive touch controllers).

I think for someone who is really mostly focused around simming there is simply no question in my mind that the G2 will be the better choice, and given that person is likely to be spending at least hundreds if not thousands on sim equipment the price differential is probably meaningless in the scheme of things. If however simming is just one small aspect of what you do, or indeed doesn't interest you at all I think the question becomes MUCH harder to answer.

I've gone for one of each. My boy now likes VR too and I was going to gift him the Vive, but managed to get £250 back on that and it was his birthday so got him the Q2 and the G2 will be for me.

I mostly play Sims, so the G2 is the obvious choice, but being able to play wirelessly on the Q2 is really handy as well. I can see why if you had to choose just one it would be a tough choice.
