**HTC HD2 Thread**

got mine yesterday to replace iphone 3g and although there are some good things about it im seriously considering sending it back to get the 3gs.

If i put the latest rom on, does it wipe the whole phone? I dont want it to delete my music, contacts, settings etc. Or the curtain and duttys app!. Thanks :D

It's the same with any ROM update from HTC, start from scratch :p

If you do set up Windows My Phone you can easily sync your contacts for example.

You can easily drag and drop your music back on when it's done so I see no problem there.

Surely you have all the apps you've installed like Duttys for example on your PC anyways as well :)

Put it on your memory card (where your music should be as well), and run.

It will save all contacts/text/etc to a handy file on the memory card, which you can then reload after you have flashed the phone. :)

Phone settings will need to be configured from scratch again though.

Well had a play with my Dads HD2 today...he got it from O2 so is locked to O2...but first impressions is that its bloody big:eek:...far too big for my liking but damn that screen is gorgeous...web browsing was a very nice experience much like the iphone. Its very thin as well which is a plus. All in all not a bad looking piece of kit...looks the part too.

BUT the fact it runs on crappy WINMO is the biggest downside to the phone..in the 10 mins i played with it...it crashed 2 times which required a battery pull lol...sorry but Winmo is a real dog when it comes to other platforms.

Other than that its a nice looking phone...if it was running something else a la Blackberry then id be postively spunking over it:p:D

If I try to get this phone through CPW is it likely to be branded in any way? Am out of contract and really can't decide whether to go for retail, direct to network or through 3rd party like CPW, etc.

How??

Had mine for two weeks odd now and haven't had a single crash.

I've not figured out why people are so hung up about windows mobile.

I've had a PDA for years that runs on windows mobile. It does everything I've needed it to do. My HD2 is certainly not held back by it.

Its a very slow, buggy and laggy OS for a phone.

To be fair the hardware running it has not always been great either, so mix the 2 and you get a crap experience.

I have have 2 WM phones myself in the past, I would not have another.

Had a Hero for a while, very nice os with a great future and now using a BB 9700.

Android is light years ahead of WM, its only HTC that have done anything with WM to try and improve it.

Opened up a few apps to see how it would run and for some odd reason it hung up on me so pulled the battery...my dad mentioned thats its happened a few times to him as well but luckily the bootup is pretty quick.

As Harry said above me its quite a buggy OS even with the fixes...i mean come on you have to actually check to see if the SMS has been sent??...thats a pretty terrible bug to be shipping with and yes my dad suffers that problem.

The hardware is nice, cant fault that but the software lets it down imho...you couldnt pay me enough money to ever want to use a WM phone as a daily runner...id rather use an iphone in that case:p:D

But honestly the HD2 isnt a bad device...its very snappy but i found it lacking mainly due to the WM background on it...put Android or even a BB OS on it and it would be absolutely brilliant i would imagine.

All CPW stock is greyboxed (unlocked, unbranded), apart from the iPhone.

FYI, the SMS bug is due to HTC Sense's Messaging system, not WM. Disabling HTC's system and using the default WM messaging platform fixes the bug. HTC have since released a patch (within 2 weeks) which seems to be working for the majority of people and has reduced it significantly for me.

So yeah, your anti-WM argument is kinda void with that one :p. Any others?
