**HTC HD2 Thread**

Not so anymore with the latest generation of batteries - you can't overcharge them like you used to be able to.

Ok then, so little charges are OK? As i often plug it into my PC to transfer some files and it charges a bit then too. I don't want to make the battery any worse :)

Uh oh, that doesn't sound good :D Mine should be here tomorrow morning - if anything it simply can't be worse than my iPhone!

And don't worry about the size/length of charges, it won't damage or reduce the performance of the battery.

Still wanting this, and annoyed that vodafone have stopped doing it!

What are peoples opinions on using phones4u or car phone warehouse for upgrades?

Nah, its not that bad. Fully charged last night, taken off this morning at around 10am. is at 63%.

The data connection (3G thingy ma jig) has been connected all day for weather updates etc.
Played Assassins Creed 2 for around 30mins this morning.
Played some music.
Browsed the internet and the Microsoft Market LOTS.
Along with the normal use.

And yea, as i said, it is still above 60%

You can, it's not the battery that stops you. Lithium Polymer or Lithium Ion are not batteries you want to overcharge ;)

Once it's fully charged, the phone will stop the charge cycle, so you can't harm the battery :)

18month - not sure what they can do but I just got the email off o2 confirming it and that the phone has been dispatched already for delivery tomorrow. Impressed!

Damn that is a good deal!

Stupid 18 month contracts though... Still got 5 months to go on mine!:(

For those that want to re-encode HD video for playback in there HD2, do the following:

Download this, create a new folder called WinMenc, and unzip the contents to it.
Download this, unzip, and copy the 2 files to the new 'profiles' folder in the WinMenc folder you just created.
Run WinMenc.exe
Select the HD video you wish to encode (720p ideally, as 1080p will take considerably longer to encode), set the destination for the new video file, select one of the 2 HD2 profiles we added earlier, and encode.
Wait, as encoding does take a while, if you have an old machine, might not be worth bothering, it took my work machine (1.9Ghz Core2Duo with 2GB RAM) 10 minutes to encode a 2 minute 720p trailer, so those with machine capable should add all the files in the morning and let it encode whilst at work.
Copy new movies to your ideally 8GB or larger micro-SD, and view using HTC Album, and be amazed at the quality!

Here is a sample, 1 using an old HD encoding method, and the other using the above, the difference is well worth the doubled file size.

Does this phone handle multitasking well? I am thinking primarily from the point of view of driving along using the satnav with it sat in the funky cradle and whether or not it can handle incoming and outgoing calls and still return to the satnav screen during the call, etc?

Would be a pig missing the turning off the motorway because you're stuck in a call.

Thanks

BA

Multi task is good on this phone. But will drains your battery fast if you have >10 applications running in the background.

That brings me on to my next question. :) I am not familiar with WM so is there a fairly basic task manager to close of tasks properly?

On my previous question, can a call be handled during the use of the satnav and can you still view the satnav screen during said call?

yes there is a task manager i assiged on the front screen to End tasks. you can easily modify the "minise" X button on top right corner of into "close application" instead.

yes I just tested my tom tom for you. but when I answer an incoming call, the screen turn blank (usual when you answer a call as expects you to put phone on your ear). so I need to press the Windows button and select the tomtom icon again to go back to the tomtom nagivation. Might be easier if I have auto answer on and connected to my car bluetooth but I didn't test.

Thanks for testing that. By pressing the TomTom button again does that just open the current instance of it, so that it goes back to the current journey?

continue from current journey or whenever it was cut off. My gps signal was cut off too (I was indoor sit next to window) but picks up again in less than 10 secs.

That's totally incorrect. It goes black because there's a light sensor above the display which detects when it's against your head - it doesn't just go black as soon as a call is answered.

Yes, it will always open up the current instance of the program by either pressing on the program's shortcut icon, or by accessing it from task manager.

You can also use the phones NaviPanel to make things a bit easier and bigger while driving. Personally I don't use it because I don't have a dedicated piece of SatNav software (just use Google Maps) and that's what it integrates with.

Wow very cool, didn't know that existed. I'm wanting one of these more and more :D

Nope, I am correct and you are wrong. Well at least for my 1.43 firmware with Tomtom 7 as I just tested it again.

The screen goes blank when I answer the call with tomtom in navigation mode. I was very careful not to get my finger close to the sensor too and the phone sat flat on the table throughout.

In fact tomtom has lost the gps signal despite sitting next to the window all the while. But it reconnects again under 10 seconds... or was it 5 seconds
