**HTC HD2 Thread**

It is worth checking out. It all runs from the sd card at the moment so you can still use winmo normally. All you need to do is unzip some files to the card and run them through file explorer to boot.

I have set up a dual boot system which is pretty cool.

how do you dual boot?

I've been telling my girlfriend to stick with her hd2 for a while now, ever since I got the X10 she has wanted android. Finally my faith in xda has paid off and the android builds are really coming along nicely now, can't see it being long until there is a full daily rom available. hmmmmm might have to swap phones with her so I can use winmo as well as android.

I must admit having trouble with virgin mobile lately really made stop using my hd2 as much but last night I updated my radio and flashed the energy xtc theme and I so wish I had done so months ago.

I think this maybe the very first phone I keep past the renewal date and oh and can link to the exact file/download for a working android?.

This is the one I have trialed:

http://gamesquare.co.uk/desire.html

1. Download from one of the above site and extract the contents to your pc
2. Copy all files to the ROOT of your Storage Card (USE A SPARE CARD IF POSSIBLE, OR BACKUP CONTENTS OF YOUR STORAGE CARD THEN FORMAT SO YOU HAVE A CLEAN CARD, THEN COPY BACK YOUR FILES WHEN YOU'RE DONE TESTING)
3. Using a File Manager goto your Storage Card and run clrad.exe (it wont do anything but it has run) followed by haret.exe
4. Wait for Android to boot (may take upto 5 minutes)

I'm not overly impressed tbh, I prefer the winmob setup with cookie hometabs.

Thanks Lakeland I'll give it a try.

Its just mere curiosity really. I have never used Android before but love the fact that we are able to try these things which makes me more glad I never followed the herd and bought an Iphone.

Darkstones latest Froyo HD2 is amazing, loads pretty quick, hardly any lag at all, battery life is very good. (lasts a good 10-12 hours for me with light use)

GPS doesn't work yet, and I can't get my Bluetooth to connect with my hands free but other that that its usable day to day. No sleep of deaths, responsive, great!!!!

Is a class 4 sd card a necessity? My 16GB card is only class 2 :(

I guess all you can do is try and see how it runs! :) Mines a class 4 and its super quick 95% of the time, just odd pauses now and again but perfectly usable!

New(ish) kid on the block is: mattcfroyorc1.3a (available on xda-developers forums).

Working GPS and bluetooth and stable enough for 24/7 use. Combine with using the cpu speed profiles app and it's possible to get battery life better than on winmo.

I'm using it for 24/7 at the moment and it's damn nice. Hopefully they'll sort flashing to NAND soon and I can forget my HD2 was ever a winmo phone :)

Loving the Android progress.

Hopefully when I am back home in Nov and pickup my sexy slab of HD2 again I can go about putting a stable daily use Android build on :D

I've been using Darkstone's most recent, but it rinses my battery way more than my Dutty WinMo ROM for some reason :(

Also using the darkstone build currently and its great. Might try out the 1.3a froyo build later for gps and better battery.

edit: just noticed rc1.4 is released.

does using the android build off the SD card mean that if I switch off and on it reverts back to winmo without any issues to progs already installed etc - if so I may give this dual boot a go, seems interesting.

Yes.

WinMo is still on the phone ROM, and Android is on the SD card.

Yup.. Just checking whether or not it's worth me updating now.

I've just been reading the last day's developer logs and it looks like there'll be a few nice fixes out within a day or two but nothing major. I may just hold off on upgrading my android version for a little while yet.

Android ROM goodness: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736545

edit: Damn...the updates actually look quite nice. Looks like I'm doing another android install today :( :)

Could I ask what radio you are using? Have had murder with my 3G performance on Virgin lately even when it shows full bars.

Whichever one I try and install it starts to install and then the screen just fades to black with feint white lines smeared up the screen. :(

Updated the radio but it still does it. :(
